Vandalism. In the 70s, the Hall I attended, and the others Halls in the greater Sacramento area, all had windows. After repeated acts of vandalism and theft of sound system components, they brought in a construction company to remove the windows.

i am going with "cheaper" in terms of construction AND vandalism costs of repair.... i was at 2 different KHs, one in houston, tx and the other in auckland, nz that had security fencing around the parking lots because of the level of vandalism .... the one in auckland had a keypad by a motorized gate to access parking.... IF ya had the "code" ( hmmmm 1914? 607?)

I go with 4...we all know that looking at the back of everyone's heads (trying to figure out how brother whosit gets his hair to do that swirlly thing) is all the entertainment they should be allowed.

I go with number 4.
Let's just say there were some beautiful mountains outside the KHall, or nice trees and maybe a field with wildflowers. Would you pay attention to the same drivel and be able to answer questions?
Of course, when the new KHall was built that I last went to, it was in a nice neighborhood. But every tree was taken down, and no new ones were planted. No shade in the summer in Houston,Texas=veeeeerrrrrry hot!!!

I think it's more vandalism than cost. Considering that the Watchtower actually MAKES money on kingdom hall construction, they don't have much reason to lower cost. Particularly a cost like windows, which would mean a particular brother's contracting company could get a slice.
The kingdom halls out in the rurals tended to have windows, while the ones in the city didn't. Again suggesting vandalism.
And there's a new hall going up just north of here. Out in the middle of nowhere, and it has windows.
Non-JW People notice the no-window thing. I've had a few ask me why Kingdom Halls don't have windows, and I found out about this new one when a non-JW friend said, "I see they're building one by me. I didn't know it was a Kingdom Hall at first, since it had windows." (It's not being "quickly built" apparently.)

Most of the new Kingdom Hall models do, in fact, have windows. I know of at least three halls in my area with windows, and they're also the newest.

ozzie, depends on the D.A requirements, local demographic and cooling/heating design, halls in LA look a whole lot different to those in Philadelphia.
