Nvrgnbk you asked me what I was asking for proof of. It's this

If they are all anointed and spirit-appointed, why is a 2/3 majority all that is required for them to make/change policies?

Can't Jehovah's active force, the same energy used in the creation of the universe, move the hearts and minds of these men to the point that all their conclusions/opinions/decisions about matters affecting God's people are unanimous within the body?

    Open Mind:

The flip flops you talk about are interesting. I haven't heard of those two and you mentioned there were many others. I'll search here, but if you have a quick link or something I'd appreciate it. I believe they are inspired. I believe they tell us they are. I admit I don't understand how they are being directed. I trust that Jehovah will make his will known through them. It's up to me to be patient and wait.

But if what you say is true, and they have gone back and forth on certain issues, especially the organ transplant issue you mentioned, then this kind of freaks me out. I'll keep looking here and so I don't hijack this thread, if you have a link can you send it to my inbox?

In one sense they have applied the 'If it aint broke......dont fix it' concept.....

They have mastered a technique, whereby no matter how far out or mistaken they are proven to be, they are able to twist their prophecy and teaching and convince themselves and their followers that this is Gods desire, that everything is just as it should be and Armaggedon is still 'just around the corner'.

They have managed to keep a large proportion of the rank and file in a state of suspense, loyalty and false reasoning, decade after decade without so much as passing suspicious thought..........'rely on Jehovah'.......'there are some things we just dont know'.

My own brother, who serves as an elder. has for definite had the issue of 607 raised to him a few years back yet continues to blindly follow the questionable lead.

It seems to me they have a system of fear that works well on the minds of many followers, and if that system continues to work well they have no need to fix it. It seems to me that many prefer to be led, blindly accepting rather than thinking and questioning...........like children with their comforters.

Good to see you around Terry

Very good, but entrenched JW's will just counterract "Yes yes but these are all just timing issues. They Watchtower have been a bit speculative on the timing of things, but otherwise all our main doctrines are sweet, spot on, they leave Christendom's for dead. So what if we got a few dates wrong, if our timing is a bit off. Its the main doctrines that make us the true religion."

That's an AMAZING digital poster Quentin! Wow, I love it. Where did you get that?

Terry, you do good, Brother Man.

Open Mind, that is the best summation of Proverbs 4 I've ever come across. Reading the Bible in context will make you throw a lot of WT's teachings right out the window.

TMS, I once thought Russell was a benign, blameless figure. The more I read about the man, the less I'm convinced of his benevolence. Down South we have a saying for people like Russell. It's called, "throwing a brick and hiding your hand."

    Multifarious, keep searching.

    Good morning Multifarious.

Here's the references for the Sodom & Gomorrah flip/flops. I generally try not to overstate my evidence, and in this case I UNDERstated it. Big time.

[Will the men of Sodom be resurrected? THE WATCHTOWER's answer: Yes, then No, then Yes, then No]

The Watchtower has held 8 positions on this issue since 1879!

BTW, I got this by using the "search" feature on here. I just typed in "sodom flip flop".

I commend you for having the intellectual honesty & curiosity to read here. At times it can be scary, but we've been blessed with awesome mental powers. Do you think God expects you not to use them?

A former member of the GB explained this in his memoirs.

    Logic confirms it.

The GB is the "ultimate" BOE.

BOE's often are not unanimous in their conclusions/opinions/decisions.

For example, when recommending men to serve in positions within the congregation ( MS/Elder) there is a provision for those not in agreement with the majority to explain their point of view on the report the CO sends to HQ.

Even on judicial committees comprised of three elders, there is often not unanimity. In the end, the dissenting elder either excuses himself from the committee, convinces the other two to rethink their position, reconsiders his own position, or yields so as not to make waves.

I share the above information based on my own experience having been an elder for seven years.

Replace governing body in the early descriptions of leadership, at least until the mid 1970's. The GB concept was the result of power struggles between the board and Knorr/Franz.
The board gradually replaced the influence of Knorr and Franz.

    Not a mere quibble.

Precisely understanding the march from Maria Russell's crackpot notion to the evolved fascist regime of Governing Body ORGANIZATION is truly chilling to consider. We must tell it right or Kool-Aid drinkers will pounce.

    thanks
