avashi: Yep, moms, cymbalta was what did it for me. I'm off it now, careful, booze+cymbalta=screwed up liver. I stopped, and within two weeks, the thought of booze grossed me out

Holy crap avashi, I have never heard about this.....I have been on Cymbalta for two years and have a problem with serious serious binge drinking. I do things in blackouts mode I can not believe when I find out later. I am also a walking pharmacy.....take lithium, wellbutrin too, and have been on up to 6 meds at one time between night and morning doses!!! My shrink has tried several "california cocktails" on me. Blends of meds that are supposed to help some bi-polor....

By the way, I went to a new doc this week and he has me coming off of welbutrin, and prob cymalta, but has put me on Lamictal by day, and Seroquel by night! Damn I don't know what to do anymore........I really want off all of it........I have only taken the seroquel one time, and that was a few months ago by my old doctor....within 10 minutes I had slurred speach and could barely walk to bed, so I have not started it again. Also have not started it because I drink some nightly and would be scared to put the two together.

Someone posted you are not supposed to take anti-depressants and booze anyway, which I know is true, so maybe I just talked myself into going off all this $hit, and backing off the booze........................thanks man........sorry for the diary....................oompa

Well, maddie, of course it does'nt happen to EVERYBODY. Meds have different side effects with different people, otherwise, we would probably all be medicated and or you'd be able to drink. And w/ many folks w/ addictive behaviors, ssri's actually help. Alot. Congratulaions on your recovery/sobriety.

No sweat, oompa. Take the article to your doc, tell him about what you're experiencing. Also, slurred speech can be a big red flag w/ seroquel, make sure and tell him about that.

One of the best things I did for myself was to stop drinking alcohol at all.

I got started while in the Wacktower Society. Life was just ridiculous I thought.

What a stupid life we led, running and hurrying and scurrying to the Kingdum Hall all the time, FOR WHAT??!!!!????

    The boredom was GROSS.

I didnt need it anymore! And so I said goodbye to the stuff forever! AND GOOD RIDDANCE TOO!!!

I see it as just another LIE anyway.

Booze has caused so much heartache in the world!

Its not worth it! Who can drink alot and not lose his dignity? It is a dangerous and
    powerful medication.

Thanks for posting this, Avishai. Never heard of this at all. But liver? Yeah. SSRI's are rough on the liver even without the booze.

Avishai: is it true that most meds will not even work when you are drinking,,,,even moderately?......and how skilled are you in giving out this info? Thanks much.....................................................................................................................oompa

Well, I worked w/ meds for years, in group homes etc. BUT! I am not a dr., nurse, etc. I'm just putting out info.... check with them if you want to make any changes. That being said, the synergy effect with alcohol is different with all meds. Some, it increases the effects, others decreases, and others if taken with alcohol can kill you.
