Great presentation.
Witnesses regularly claim persecution on the Internet. Each time a negative discussion of the Watchtower Society appears on answers.yahoo.com there is a chorus of Witnesses saying such 'persecution' proves they have the truth. This dishonors those that received real persecution. What has happened to Witnesses pales in comparison to that received by other religions, such as the Cathars, who were virtually made extinct when over 100,000 were murdered within a couple of years for their beliefs.

Jgnat,
Thanks for that comprehensive review. The selective paranoia of the WTS organization is showing. I'm glad you alluded to sources that show that nations are persecuting many other religions in addition to JW's.
This is another feeble attempt by the WTS to rally the troops using an "us against the whole world" mentality. As you pointed out, the JW leadership has often invited opposition by being so mean and spiteful in their own literature.
"No weapon formed against them will succeed?" The most potent weapon is a gun, which they often use to shoot their own feet.

As usual, very astute comments by jgnat. I hope she'll be guest on WT Comments again.
One point I'd like to nitpick over.
The greatest persecution a Witness will experience here in the Western world is a slammed door.
Certainly that's true of the majority of JWs in the free Western world. But there are still those in 'divided households' who'd get beaten senseless for going to a meeting or have to flee for their lives because they were studying with JWs (I have people I know in mind).

Again,
Excelent presentation. I always read this weekly post. I don't always comment. Keep the good work. :)

Outlaw, Looking at it not as a dub helps point out fallacies... great thread as always...

Not that I doubt the numbers, but I think the generalization of these persecutions allows
the Witness to fill in the blanks with their own imaginations. The world suddenly becomes
an unfriendly place.Very insightful.

The 1917 book The Finished Mystery* roundly exposed the hypocrisy of Christendom. That brought forth a bitter reaction from the clergy. In more recent times, Kingdom News No. 37, "The End of False Religion Is Near!" has moved many people to take their stand either for or against God's Kingdom.
[Footnote] * Published by Jehovah's Witnesses but now out of print .
What a shame that such a wonderful book which helped so many people take their stand is now out of print? And isn't it amazing that not too long ago it was the WT Society that published the book--now they say it was published by Jehovahs Witnesses. They weren't even known as Jehovah's Witnesses back then!

More attempts to innoculate against those darned apostates and that wicked media with their persecuting facts about us being a bunch of child molesters.
And it has the added benefit of beating the drum that the end is oh so near!!!!
