The night I decided my C.O. was an apostate

"Apostate" is such a loaded word, isn't it? I always thought of it as a dirty word...not so much like a four-letter obscenity, but more like a racial/ethnic slur. So, when I used it to describe the C.O. that night, it was with some trepidation.

I should probably clarify that I do not currently think that C.O. is an apostate in the way the WTS uses that word. In fact, I'm sure the WTS considered this fellow a company man. However, that night I was so repulsed by what he taught from the platform, that the word "apostate" was the most vile epithet I could come up with.

Thank you for reading my story.

I agree that most of them are on a head trip of one kind. My mom was feeling ill and an elder came over and said it was probably demons and she should eat grapes. The next day her ulcer blew open and she almost died.

We had this Circuit Overseer who was a real piece of work. 40-ish MTS grad, I believe. Well, Mrs. Ghost and I were attending a congregation that had some...well...interesting personalities. In particular, two families had serious issues with each other. To further complicate matters, both families were very active in the congregation (pioneers, elders, servants, you get the picture). Fortunately, we were able to stay out of the fray, but Mrs. Ghost and I knew everything that was going on between these families. People like to talk, you know? Honestly, everyone involved in that situation just needed to grow up.

Anyway, when the C.O. comes, he gets an ear full from both families.

Wow! This sounds so much like my family and another elder family. Many Co's had to deal with that problem and the whole congregation was involved. One CO suggested to split the cong in two, for fear jah might take away his spirit. Long story, anyway...

...for me too it was the way problems got dealt with which was one of many eye-openers.
So I can thank COs, elders and other hypocrites for helping me on the way out.

The job of a CO must be surreal. One minute you are all wrapped up in the goo and adoration of gods organisation. The next, you are dealing with 2 or 3 warring factions in a congregation. Having to listen to people manipulating their situation as the ones who are right. We had a few congregation splits. It all stems from a culture of people who are suspicious, judgemental & crafty.

Ghost: Very interesting...how the practice has strayed from what the doctrine started as...!

Jambon: "The job of a CO must be surreal." Lovely post. Thank you!

Many within the Org. are totally blind to facts. It's as if many go along with the concept of the New World Soc. no matter what .They seem to have the most amazing blind spot. It's as if they hold on to their understanding of the so called truth because they want to believe it to be true. They know somethings are wrong but they think they are not as wrong as other religions so it gets put to the back of their mind. Some are too afraid to rid themselves of the cocoon .They have been indoctrinated into thinking everthing out side the mothership is evil so they prefer to cling on.Maybe they are the original Clingons.

That is one of the saddest/funniest/tragic things I've read in a while.

Are you serious? Details. I want details.

" Mr. Flipper as you progress in the truth people will give you all kinds of opinions on how you should act. But remember they are JUST opinions. Make sure their opinions harmonize with the Bible because it is the final authority ! "

Wow I have been given the exact same advice. That is why I never believe what the elders (brothers in position) say right away. I have been around too long to see most give THEIR opinion and people put their blinders on and follow the bright light with NO thought what so ever.

I know this is 2 years old, but that is one of the funniest, most retarded things I've ever heard of an elder saying! Grapes can cure demon caused illness, good to know! To think he was considered fit to take the lead and teach the congregation.

Why would men stop you being a Jehovah's witness? You read the bible a book showing that with the exception of Jesus the men that followed Jehovah made tons of imperfect mistakes from murder, adultery, to killing God's own people.

So you found out Your CO was an imperfect human, why would that make Jehovah any less Jehovah?

I always find imperfection of men threads weird because the bible is very consistent in showing that shepherding does not stop us being imperfect. Moses still made mistakes, even Paul wasn't particularily impressive in person. But that doesn't negate the bible direction for us to have overseers, elders among us etc?

    Titus 1:7
Since an overseer is entrusted with God's work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

    1 Timothy 5:17
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh but I always wonder at imperfection of men as a reason to be stumbled. Surely Jehovah's usage of King David and Moses both murderers would create a massive stumbling block for you?
