A Sister for many years has worked in the, 8 items or less section. However, this is the only lane that sells Cigarette's. Going to say hi is tough as she's interupted by people asking for Malbro extra mild 40's....and she know exactly what to look for!!! Now as a Pioneer/Servant I was taught that Smoking and fornication are both disfellowshiping offences, very serious...so how can she be pimping out smokes!! Should I work in or run brothel...is that Okay as long as I don't participate? And The Watchtower says Witness Doctors and nurses may administer Blood Transfusions if this is part of their duties. However, if they had to have one they should pull the tube out and run away. HIPOCRITES OR NOT??????

I think there was a post 1980 Watchtower article that said JW nurses/doctors could give blood transfusions by their own conscience. They are not sinning, the worldly person is.

may want to have someone with a WTCD look into the cigarette thing...

I think you can stock and sell them as an employee... but if you own a store you have a choice in the matter and it would be trouble if you did.

Having a concience is such a tricky thing. Were'nt you glad the society printed instructions for it?

we had a long discussion of this topic back in 1987 during the Pioneer School... at the time I was working in retail. I was a "cart guy" and did a lot of different things, including stock. Occasionally, I was asked to stock the cigs. Finally, a FT position opened up....stocking/setting the merchandise in the checklanes.....which of course included stocking cigs every day. I brought this up at pioneer school...and the consensus of the class and instructors was that an occasional stocking was just "part of the job"..but when a good majority of the job is that, it probably wouldn't look good for an up and coming MS/regular pioneer....but ..."its your conscience, brother....." :::yeah right:::: ... I pushed shopping carts for 4 more years....

when I first started at that retailer, before becoming the cart guy, I worked Hardware, which included "Seasonal"....so my first Christmas, they wanted me to help put up/decorate the trees....besides the point I wouldn't have a clue how to do it (and that was the excuse I used to get out of it, never done it before), it bothered my conscience at the time.....but I would still stock the merchandise, zone (straighten) the shelves, etc with no consciecnce issues..... odd huh where we draw the lines....

in Pio School, the difference in being a business owner and a business employee was brought up to...even a business owner would have a hard time refusing to provide service to a church...so it was suggested to just bid so high on a contract they wouldn't accept the bid...the question was brought up, "What if the church did accept an outrageously high bid?"...instructor's answer?.... "::::laughing:::: ...then maybe it is Jehovah's blessing." I $hit you not....

We even got into ..should a christian buy girl scout cookies (consensus...yes, you pay fair market value for the cookies and besides Thin Mints are good...)....or buy fish at a church or Optimist fish fry stand (same consensus)..... cant believe we wasted so much time on that subject....

I'm a nurse and it never bothered my conscience to give a patient blood. They had a discussion about people working in environments that some would think was not JW friendly/safe/kosher. .. ie working for Boeing making Jets to bomb countries, places that made guns and fireworks, hospitals that performed abortions, and so on...

    It's up to your conscience.

All patients have to sign a consent form to receive blood. We would put a no blood band on the patient's arm and chart if they were a person that did not want blood; but we still had to legally ask them if they wanted it or not.

If we gave blood to a person without getting their written consent, our butts would be in a sling!

Remeber the Revalation book has a pictures which represent the mark of the beast and shows afew worldly things...one being a doctor pressuring a Witness to take blood??? Brothers have died or frozen for refusing to put on a army uniform {not go to war just dress up}....but handing out Transfusions is Okay. Does anyone else think this ORG. is full of crap. Brothers can't work at Casino's selling hot dogs but blood and smokes are okay.

I don't think it is hypocritical to sell cigarettes since the bible does not forbid selling tobacco. I think handling and giving blood is clearly against the teachings of the bible and people that participate should be burned at the stake, err I mean DFed or DAed

At Pioneer school they told us that letting your bible study smoke in front of you was like letting them commit fornication in front of you...so ask your study not to smoke while studying.
