I think the apostle lied when he said there were no male or female , not true . There are more rules applied to women than to men .The WTBTS looks at as such, the commandment that jesus gave was to love your neighbor as yourself therefore whether or not you are in the remnant that would mean you have to warn people that the end of the world is near and they must learn the truth to be saved .To them the only true worship of God is the actual preaching of the gospel , the groveling in front of an idol is not worship so the command is also to "worship" in spirit and truth.(JC)

This thread is sure an eye-opener. Wish I were privy to this information sooner.

We were always having to endure comments from the PO's wife in our hall to the effect that if any of us weren't out there regularly (read minimum 10 hrs per month) preaching the Kingdom, we could not call ourselves Jehovah's Witnesses. Why she felt the need to constantly make this comment, I will never know. Neither she nor her PO husband obviously had a clue as to the true state of who were commissioned to preach and I am sure they are not the only ones. This info should be shared front and centre with any others of the rank and file who find their so-called 'commission' less than exciting.

    THIS IS NEWS! GOOD NEWS!

At one of the last Kingdom Hall meetings I can remember attending back in the mid-1970s, the speaker made EXACTLY the same point you are making, Terry, except he had to put the corporate goal-following spin on it. As I recall, he said, "The OBLIGATION to preach is given only to the anointed, but it is our priviledge to assist them." In that instant my eyes opened with newfound knowledge: "then I can take some time off," I reasoned.

My "gone fishin'" sign has been up ever since.

Along the liens of what Gopher said, i have heard of one speaker who reminded his audience that "witness" is a VERB and requires ACTION.

Always keep the publishing company's goals in the forefront of your mind, O ye witnesses!

Before anybody gets too excited about this, let's not forget what Void Eater's Dad went through to get to this point.

    He was treated as DA'd!

So I don't think you can just pull out this line of reasoning with most elder bodies and expect it to fly. Can you really picture your average elder saying "Oh, OK, Brother Lazy A$$. I see what you're saying. So no service for you if you don't really WANT to. No problem. I won't bother you any more about it."

I don't think so. It would end up getting pretty messy before it got cleaned up.

Still a very interesting scenario with VE's Dad though. It might be interesting to see if someone who's ready to DA anyway could make this point stick.

Your comment about the Witness Majesterium is dead on. Jesus' vague comments are twisted into an authority that has no justification.

Watchtower-1970-January-1-p.19 That is what allpeople who have come to know Jehovah and his beloved Son, Christ Jesus, are required to do now. Real Christians today, like the apostles, musthelp people to whom they preach so that such ones can understand God’s Word. They must be teachers and help each disciple or learner to get the sense of the “word of the kingdom.” Jesus said: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matt. 24:14) This, Jehovah’s witnesses are really trying to do. When they do make disciples it is necessary for these to dedicate their lives and be baptized in water so as to make a full expression before Jehovah and Christ Jesus and their brothers that they are going to do the will of God henceforth as that will is set forth in his written Word.

In comparing the two posts from Atlantis it appears that the Watchtower has contradicted itself.

    How can this be?

    It can't...........Must......... re-compute.

Oh yeah, which reference is older?

Go with "present truth" and pay no attention to the "old light" behind the curtain.

No, hold on. We can do better.

Jesus only directly commanded his (soon-to-be) annointed followers to preach.

But, the annointed then, in turn, commanded all the low-life, Great Crowd, spiritual table crumb catchers to get off their lazy butts and help!

It's all about theocratic order and headship. Now I get it.

Still don't see how Void Eater's Dad got a pass though. That was pretty slick.

Hey VE, do ya think maybe your Dad could send me a photo-copy of his "Get Out of Preaching Free" card?

In a legal sense, to witness something you must have first hand observation and experience. If you relay the testimony of someone else it is considered hearsay evidence and is not admisable in court.

Given the doctrine that only the annointed can understand most of scripture, and they pass their knowledge to the great crowd, the a member of the great crowd could not possible be considered a primary witness, as they would be mostly presenting hearsay testimony to a householder.

As a householder who has spoken with many so called witnesses, I can tell that I am being presented with hearsay testimony, and it actually works against me having confidence in what I am being told.
