Always like this one!
How to choose? Where to start? Everything they have produced is excellent, really excellent. This is one of my favorite bands. I have been listening to them over 20 years and I still do not tire.
I would guess Joshua Tree as their best album, Sunday Bloody Sunday is my personal favorite song. My fave off of JT is God's Country.
Burn
I was at the Joshua Tree concert in 1986/1987. I had not heard the album when I went. I was floored, and became an even bigger U2 fan. However, my favorite U2 song was not played at that concert, despite the 7+ standing ovations. So, Bono owes me the song, as the $75 ticket price was ALOT of money...and I specifically went to hear this song.... GLORIA My other favorite songs are: The Streets have No Name Mysterious Ways 40 New Years Day (a very bittersweet and personal song this one has turned out to be) .... Skeeter
Angel of Harlem is pretty much the only song I really like from them. The rest are kind of mediocre. I'm sick of hearing The Joshua Tree.
BTW, that album WAS released on 8-track:

Yeah, I remember when a CD player was $1,500! I had the Joshua Tree on tape, as well as October & War. Thank Jehovah for new technology. Definately, better light.
Favorite song is "New Year's Day". I remember listening to the song on the radio on new year's day in 1985, looking out my bedroom window and seeing the street filled with red firecracker refuse from the night before....I still get that image when I hear the song. The other favorite song is "With or Without You", which represents for me a major turning point in life, at the time the song came out in spring 1987.
OMG, loved this band. Liked them better when they were younger and more pissed off.
I slept on the sidewalk in Oakland California to get up front for the Joshua Tree show. Probably my favorite song from that "album", In God's Country. Burn this is getting scary. Eeaghhhh! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkbaRJuZ3A8 the bit between 2:00 and 2:08 sends chills up my spine.
More favorites, Sunday Bloody Sunday, I Will Follow, Stories for Boys, Gloria, New Years Day, 40, All of Under a Blood Red Sky, and Unforgettable Fire, All of Joshua Tree.......................Ohhhh lots.
Oh Edited to add "Bad". Spectacular song.
By the way, Live Aid was a major event for me. Not only did I wait and wait for it, but I was in labor with my first child for over 36 hours that night and day, nearly the whole darn show. My Doc and my ex were standing there discussing whether I would need a cesarean or inducement or some such horror, and then suddenly the doc was saying "oh wow, is that so and so? I haven't seen them for years!" I have this in and out dream of the whole thing. Music and labor................ Just as the Led Zep reunion was coming on (the thing I wanted to see most) I went in and delivered my daughter. During Stairway to Heaven.
Desire, Even Better Than the Real Thing, Zoo Station.

During the 80s, I thought REM and U2 were the best bands. I liked the B52's as well. Only later did I come to learn that there were many great bands we didn't get to hear over here in the USA. Lots of good new wave. I ended up listening to oldies 60's and 70's music for most of the 80's. I also like The Cure.
