FLYING HIGH NOW- I really liked Mysterious Ways and Sunday Bloody Sunday . Great songs ! I also liked the Cure as well- they put out some great material. Liked " Losing My Religion" and " The One I Love " by R.E. M. , but not a lot more from them for some reason . Especially when after viewing their lead singer Michael Stipe making some very anti- Beatles remarks in an interview - kind of soured me on R.E.M. as I'm a BIG Beatles fan - as you well know ! LOL! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

U2 fans never mention this one, but it is my absolute favourite. I like every single track on it. I take it with me to retreat in Wales and have walked the yellow gorse laden cliffs to this a hundred times. I get shivers just thinking about how the title track begins. It reminds me of being angry and 18, disfellowshipped again, but above all free. I literally must have walked a hundred miles to this.

I saw them at Wembley Stadium on the Pop tour shortly before getting reinstated and ended up witnessing to someone in the crowd who I conducted a bible study with by post for a few months after that. I should have just enjoyed the music!

    My top U2 album: ZOOROPA

    Zooropa...Vorsprung durch Technik
Zooropa...be all that you can be
    Be a winner
    Eat to get slimmer

    Zooropa...a bluer kind of white
    Zooropa...it could be yours tonight
    We're mild and green
    And squeaky clean

    Zooropa...better by design
    Zooropa...fly the friendly skies
    Through appliance of science
We've got that ring of confidence

    And I have no compass
    And I have no map
    And I have no reasons
    No reasons to get back

    And I have no religion
    And I don't know what's what
And I don't know the limit
The limit of what we've got

Don't worry baby, it'll be alright
    You got the right shoes
To get you through the night
It's cold outside, but brightly lit
    Skip the subway
    Let's go to the overground
Get your head out of the mud baby
Put flowers in the mud baby
    Overground

    No particular place names
    No particular song
    I've been hiding
    What am I hiding from

Don't worry baby, it's gonna be alright
Uncertainty can be a guiding light
    I hear voices, ridiculous voices
    Out in the slipstream
    Let's go, let's go overground
Take your head out of the mud baby

    She's gonna dream up
The world she wants to live in
    She's gonna dream out loud
    She's gonna dream out loud
    Dream out loud

CRUMPET - It is true - I have had songs do that for me as well , help me heal and think about life and different things. John Lee Hooker made the statement once that , " the blues are a healer ". I agree and think that great music in general is a healer as well ! I'm glad you got to see U2 live - I bet it was awesome ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

I can forgive Michael for anything because I had a crush on him for many, many years. I love the Beatles and I love REM. I like the Eponymous and the Out of Time CD's the best. I liked REM because they were a breath of "real instrument" fresh air amongst so much synthesized music of the day. I was a 60's child and I needed my folk rock fix.

FLYING HIGH NOW - I agree R.E.M. had talent - but it was just the brazenly disrespectful way Stipe came across in the interview dropping F- bombs and all about the Beatles . Thought it showed a lack of class and was totally unnecessary . But I understand if you had a crush on him - that forgives lots ! LOL! Peace. Mr. Flipper

It was the huge eyes and curly hair. Once he shaved the hair, his power over me has faded. It's funny, my best girlfriend and her sister also had mad crushes on Michael. I chalk his remarks about the Beatles up to artistic idiosyncrasy. I have a friend from childhood, we lived in very, very Catholic SE Louisiana, who was so upset over the John Lennon remark about being more popular with teens than God, that to this day she will get up and walk out of the room if a Beatles song is playing. I try not to let the artists' opinions stop me from enjoying their excellent music. I never did understand why people were burning Beatle's records. And I was very young then.
