I knew someone whose grandfather left his estate in part to his daughters and in part to the Lions club. Because of poor wording in the will, the Lions club got it all after taking the matter to court, and his daughters got nothing but chattel in the home. There was a lot of land and money in the estate.

Personally, I would never name a charity in my will. If I'm feeling charitible and have no loved ones, I'll leave what I have to an individual, even a virtual stranger, who is in need.

OK, I guess my question is: If he was Df'd, why the hell did he still have the Craptower Society down as the beneficiary??

Its called being a 'walkaway believer', and its quite common. Not all ex-jws are apostates, some still believe the wbts is right its just that they don't want to live their lives by their rules, or feel unable to. We have had a few come on here who are no longer witnesses but blast us as apostates for saying something bad about the wbts.

It appears that the WTS might have a legal right to the money. I just hope that there will be a big cost in terms of public relations. Maybe it will remind some disfellowshipped millionaire to change his will before it's too late.

    You win, Mary.

So, they would have to appeal to this Charities Commission to give the donation back to the autistic brother, but they don't have to, and probably won't.

I would say this is amazing, but really, I'm not amazed by anything Crooklyn or Crooklyn-across-the-pond does nowadays.

The governing accountants at Crooklyn should get all board members round the table and ask the question of each member " what would Jesus do ?" They would come up with the wrong answer naturally, so they then should ask "how will it look from a PR point of view" .I think they will still come up with the wrong answer which would confirm what the Watchtower critics have been saying all along and that is that they are operating a perpetuating charity of collecting money that no one except their own New World Society of scam artists will benefit from.

    Blind leaders leading the blind.

They're on firm legal ground here but the ethical point is easy to see:

They expelled a man as impure or unworthy but still want/accept his money.

We can only hope that this incident will open some official eyes about the greedy nature of the Watchtower.

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that its all about
the money. This just adds more proof to that.

Just like any bureaucracy, the guys on top get the large
    majority of the benefits.

Basically every organization is a bureaucracy, some are
commercial, some political and some religious.

The way to beat them is not participate.

Me agrees with Metatron post # 4416.

    and

    Joelbear69's words.

    Just like to add.

Me has seen it with my own eyes over and over.

But as the laws of the lands stand there is little (at this point) any of us can do.

By the way. They will also count shunned person (that are not alive in their view) at the kingdom hall.

Me always bring this up (money from shunned ones and counting at kingdom hall) in discussions with WTBS personnel.

Watch their body language when you bring this subject to their attention. The brains go to work.

Me would like to encourage others to do the same, if you already haven't,

    Thanks
