Gadget I believe the 100,000 pounds was the "half" of the estate left to him. Anyways I don't think anyone on this board is remotely shocked the WTS would keep funds from a DF'd guy.

Yea, take this df'd man's money, he's dead. But what about all of the workers at bethel that are being let go. No unemployment, no social security, no jobs, no gold watch. And then they make huge profits off of the sale of property in brooklyn. Is this what they call brotherly love? I enjoyed the story of Robin Hood better.

OK, I guess my question is: If he was Df'd, why the hell did he still have the Craptower Society down as the beneficiary?? Maybe he planned on changing it down the line, and legally there's probably nothing that can be done. Morally? Well that's another story. The idea that a multi-billion dollar corporation is profiting from a not insignificant sum left to them by someone who they viewed as "spiritually and morally dead", when they could do the charitable thing and place it in trust for his autistic nephew, is yet another nail in their coffin. Or at least from a public relations point of view and it speaks volumes as to what their true motives are when it comes to "money" and "charity".

Nice work Crooklyn. Nothing like taking candy from a baby eh?

If they lead people to think that the money is being used for altruistic causes and to help others in need or for pub. rags....and then its proven they spend money for court judgements...

    wouldn't that be MISAPPROPRIATION?

Why can't they get a judgement against WTS for Misappropriation of funds?

Is there ANY acounting for monetary donations? Is there anything in writing that states they use contributions for "the world wide work" and anything to actually define what that "worldwide work" is?

Arn't they the ones always telling us (or at least encouraging us) not to accept any sort of rewards if we find a large sum of money that belongs to somebody else?

So, it's ok for them to accept money from somebody that they have judged and decided to shun?

I don't get it why the word charity is even in the same sentence with WTBT$.

What charity? I'd like to see a listing of charitable causes the WTBT$ supports.

The WTS are almost blaming the Charity Commission for not being 'allowed' to hand the money back to the nephew.

Their argument is that they are not permitted to spend donated money outwith the purposes stated in their charitable application forms. Their only recourse is to make a 'moral obligation' appeal to the Charity Commission for this special case. ie we don't normally give large sums of cash to non JW-s (or anybody for that matter) as that is not the purpose of our charity, but in this case the autistic nephew has a moral right to the money and we'd like to do the right thing.

However the WTS have not made that moral appeal to the CC, and are of course sticking to the letter of the law and saying that donated money must be used within the terms of their charitable objectives.

They need the money. Paying off the victims of sexual abuse from within the Kingdom Hell gets really expensive!
