The UN is not capable of banning religion. Taxing religion, on the other hand, would have a very significant effect on all religions. The watchtower has changed policies to avoid taxes in the past, such as not charging for literature and getting rid of food service.
If there's anything coming up, it is much more likely to involve taxes. As far as being the end, that has been and continues to go on forever.
The only training they give elders is how to avoid any legal liability.

Ha! The UN can't muster up a peace keeping force even when the Security Council is unanimous in agreement. Can you imagine what it would take to inforce a ban on religions in even one Islamic country, or Bhuddism in India let alone the Vatican and its vast minions.? It doesn't surprise me that the r&f jdubs fall for that stuff over and over again.

I don't think it is a few elders twisting things and here's why. My father is a PO. Every time he comes back from an assembly, or a meeting with the CO, or elder's school, etc, he starts spouting the same kinds of things, saying "the society says it is any day now and we have to get ready". Then he goes around to all his inactive offspring, (3/4) and starts trying to scare them back into the truth. He is very sincere and very loyal. He is also a total company man, rule book follower, and would never make up stuff on his own that the society didn't say. Many of the rumors that some on JWD have heard in other parts of the country are the same ones I'm hearing over on my side of the continent. Coincidence? I think not.
I think the society is stirring up these rumors but they have gotten smart enough not to do it in print. They are spreading through CO's and PO's at elder's schools and having it trickle down to the flock that way. Then when nothing happens they can deny ever saying it and claim it was just a bunch of excited brothers stirring up rumors again. This stuff is coming from the CO's. I've heard it myself from some of them and through my husband at MS school. It is part of big plan to get every one all fired up with zeal again but not have to take responsibility for the bullshit.
