Generally, when you heard the names announced, what went through your mind?

I was truly happy for them. I felt that they were an asset to the congregation, that they would be used to help people, that they had made strides to be a godly man, that they were just about sinless, and that it would advance Kingdom interests.

In short, just what I was supposed to think. I was a good and sincere dub.

I wonder how many Witnesses feel worried when certain ones get into positions.

Well, I guess I should have added that my thoughts were Past-tense. You said DID you get all excited.

Now? Do I worry? YES, because I know that some of these men are on a power trip, are bullies, and love nothing more than to "put people in their place." Especially women.

Unfortunately, I know this the hard way, due to the unholy treatment of my teen daughter when she was falsely accused of immorality and df'd without an explanation. She was humiliated, demeaned, and villified by five men masquerading as Christian Shepherds. The committee chairman was a master of removing self-esteem and any feelings of self-worth from vulnerable young girls at a very impressionable age. She had merely done some normal teen stuff. Nothing approaching any actions of mine when I was a teen.

Here's an example of one of ten questions they asked her:

"What is it that you feel is so restrictive about Jehovah's organization?"

Her answer: "I don't feel it is restrictive."

"Well, you must have or you wouldn't have done what you did. Now answer the question."

How can a person possibly answer these types of questions without ripping their hair out? Especially a sixteen year old?

Now I am sadder and wiser........

I wondered how long it would take for their hours to drop and their "helpfulness" to drop off now that they had achieved eldership. I knew that some never did anything and it was nepotism that got them their position. Once in a great while I knew one was sincere and was trying but I wondered when they would come up against the other elders who did not want to look bad or controlled the congregation. There were political factions too and I wondered if this would swing the power to the other side.

sadly minimus yes I did - I bought into it all totally. Over the years I was an elder, did not get suprised obviously because I either knew about it or made the announcement!!!!

In my early years I was suprised and even shocked on a couple of occasions. Other times I was excited

Yes I was excited for them. At that time of course, I really wanted to see another congregation formed in this area and I thought these appointments would help us get to that point.
