Recently, it was announced that 2 former elders were appointed mini servants. One had been an elder from 1959 and 2 years ago was removed for going to a wedding of non believer and inactive one. The other one resigned as an elder less than 2 years after being made one and he just got appointed MS.

Nice to have the little crumbs so as to "prove" themselves to the body of elders, huh?

the real excitement happened when a pair of KMS elders were assigned and the congro caught fire for a while....

but there were always a couple of bros who were appointed elders, lasted a few years, stepped down and then 5 years later...... wash rinse repeat..... those were the ones that elicited enthusiasm akin to summer re-runs.....

cant recall much about ministerial servants causing a buzz in the ranks...... just when they were deleted for commonly known indiscretions......

I always had so many friends and am the type that people always confided in so I usually by default rolled my eyes when appointments were made because I knew too much about the man.

Pretty much, as long as my name wasn't in the letter, I was good with it.

A long, long time ago, a CO discussed elder "qualifications" with a group of elders. After going through the laundry list, he said, "Finally, the question you must ask yourselves is this: When you read the announcement to the congregation, will the general reaction be, 'Well, it's about time!' or will people be looking at each other knowingly and thinking, 'WTF?'" (I edited that last part; he didn't say it in those words, but the idea was the same).

From that time on, every time an announcement was made I thought of this.

A CO said the same thing to us years ago except for the WTF part too.

So, according to that CO, the important thing was, not what your spiritual qualifications were, but how you looked to the congregation.

I was genuinely happy for them. I used to try and guess each time the CO visited who would be appointed, if anyone. I always bought into the whole thing...
