This has probably been talked about but my wife went to this morning's meeting and she usually comes home after the talk.

She isn't home and it hit me that it's way harder to leave after only 30 minutes.

Ahhh, shaming the flock into staying for the WT.

Do you know that is brilliant. I had not thought of that. You could be right this could be part of the reason. Very unlikely to be the whole reason but certianly part of it.

It was so much of a problem in our old congo the CO commented. Brothers and sisters would come for opening, song prayer and PT and then go during the middle song. Now only 30 minutes much more embarrassing to do so

Although there may be some guilt feelings on the part of those who skip out between meetings, almost EVERYTHING the organization does somehow promotes guilt or fear.

It seems to me that the main reason for cutting back the public talk was that the WTS was afraid that too many people were losing attention and skipping out before the "most important meeting of the week", their WT Study indoctrination session.

I think the WTS could have accomplished its goal of getting more people to sit through the Sunday WT lesson by switching the order of the meetings, by having the study first. But maybe they wouldn't do that because they want that WT lesson to be the last thing on its members' minds as they file out of the Kingdom Hall.

Well 30 minutes now... I guess it makes it easier not to have to shift your butt too much to find a comfy spot.

Who sits for an hour for anything these days. With instant communication at your finger tips ie (news net) everything recycles in 15 minutes so you don't

miss anything even with a lack of attention. OOPS..I get you don't miss anything at the KH either cause they go over it, go over it go over it........

That makes all kinds of sense to me! Now I wonder how they are going to wise up and drop the wt all together. Back in the 1970's I remember some studies being 35-45 questions....for one session! And the idiot wt conductor muddling thru, asking for three comments on every question and reading all the bible texts. I could have appreciated reading all the texts more if they didn't read the wt, or if they asked for a brief comment. Some of those studies went on for over two hours! Even my dad said once that Sammy sure knew how to prolong the agony! And dad claimed to be of the annointed.......

Yes, it's a dreary and sobering reflection on the state of the organization when the main thing that holds your attendance at the Kingdom Hall is other people's opinions of you. The "new" 30-minute public talk would have the old-timer JWs spinning in their graves (if they weren't unconscious or flitting off to be with the reat of 144,000). It's all part of the dumbing down of an already dumb message.

OK, I will use a counter-guilt tactic. If you are only going for the public talk, and it's only half an hour, why waste the gas and prep time getting ready, driving to the Kingdumb Hell, and sitting there for only a half hour? Better to just skip the whole thing.

My wife and I used to leave after the talk to go grab a early lunch at a popular Mexican resturant. As soon as the intermission song
began ... we were already out the door. Those were great days!
