How I know I have entered the south..

If I order "sweet tea" and the wait-staff does not point at the sugar and sweet-n-low on the table.

That's a high 90% indication I am in the "south".

Florida may not always be the South... the paradox that comes from being as far east as it is south. Even Ocala and Winter Haven are overun with Michigan and New Yorkers now days.

Oklahoma is OK... some parts or southern... others , western buy so far I dont find many "yankees" around here.

Parts of Michigan may be in the south... during WW2 much of the south went up and stayed. In some places you find grits easier than german sausage. While I was away from Michigan it seems that a great deal of that state was taked over by some mutated lumberjack-redneck- Jerry Springer- love child- strain of humanoid. Maybe that's a few years of Dutch culture gone awry in the big Piney woods? The "sweet tea" test is hit or miss in Michigan.

The Sweet Tea test in not valid in a Cracker Barrel.

Yes, it's like it hasn't occurred to restaurants that sugar disolves very inefficiently in ice tea. Also that many people prefer sweet tea and the restaurants would sell a lot more tea if they offered sweet tea. Oh yeah, and not called it sweetened or iced tea. No D's.

You Yanks, need to get yout of your houses.... Oh, I forgot, you can't... thus the reasons you have to take pot shots at the South. Just becasue you're misarable with your lot in life, don't mean you have to take it out on us....LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a thing called southern bashing. I run across it all the time. And it's not okay to say impolite things about ethnic minorities, but it's fine and dandy to say the more stereotypical things about southerners. You wouldn't believe, or maybe you would, the ignortant things non southerners will say right to your face or in front of you to their friends about the south.

FHN, that stuff don't mean crap to me, but one poster said something a while back about Georgia being a penal colony, and that made me laugh my ass off... he was trying to say we all are genetically slower than the rest of the country because we are all descendents of criminals... like the whole state of Georgia are cousing marrying fools because and the offsprings of criminals. LOL!!!!..

I love it when someone makes a ignorant comment like that trying to prove Southerners inferior... Savannah started as a penal colony, the "State" of Georgia didn't start as a penal colony, Savannah did, and most of those imprisioned didn't have offsprings, we are't descendents of imates! LOL! What a stupid comment! And to think the one that made it thought it was true! LOL!

We have been informed that after 12 years of residency we are now "adopted" Southerners.

You really must order the sweet tea with the full on accent, "swate tay", when you are in the North. My kids don't know it comes any other way. They drink it with their hushpuppies and catfish.

Hey, I'm from PA and I know what sweet tea is. McDonalds started serving it last summer. With all those nationwide (and international) chain restaurants, nothing is region specific. But if McDonalds started serving pierogies...that would be something.

I never considered sweet tea to be exclusively southern, I would imagine most people in the north drink it sweetened too, except for maybe diabetics and even then they use artificial sweeteners. Now mint julep that is definitely southern.
