I remember an elder once giving a talk about technology. He asked what kind of warped mind thinks and designs this stuff. Some even get a thrill from it.

I sat there squirming in the audience because I am one of those warped minds. To me it is just genius that a missile/delivery system can be designed that can be launched from a submarine while submersed and given extra guidance by satellite and once at ballistic phase can launch multiple warheads at independent targets (MIRV). To me that is just engineering genius and I am in awe. Now in Utopia of course all that talent could be put to peacful uses - but of course we do not live in Utopia.

Anybody else have warped feelings that contradict WTS policy?

An old sister™ once told me that she looked forward to the new system when all of the cars and other technology would be destroyed.

She said we would have to clean things up with shovels because bulldozers wouldnt be allowed.

Didn't sound like a place I wanted to be really.

I love GPS technology. A little hand-held (or dash-mounted) computer can find the
places I need to find. If I need to find a post office in Idaho, but have never been there,
this gadget can guide me from the interstate highway into town and to the post office.

The gadget relies on a military satellite to do this. The only reason many of the things
in people's pocket or on their desk work is because the military did the research.

I am not for spending all that money on military research, but it was done without my
approval. I might as well enjoy my GPS. Perhaps, if WTS didn't tell us to stay out of
the politics of the world, I could have had a voice in all the military spending.

there was a huge leap in technology from Cold War and Apollo progrma that we all benefit from. I am sure computers would not be where they are today if not for a drive by the military - Radar, Jet Airplanes etc all help modern society

And don't take away my velcro, zip lock baggies, post-it notes, microwave oven, digital camera with the same memory card that goes into my Garmin GPS, my AutoCAD engineering drawing software, my Paint Shop Pro software, my Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, ZtreeWin, and TextPad software, my Lipitor, and Plavix.

For browser software, my Firefox. For searching, my Google, the best WT revealing tool out there. Okay, so I concede the WT Library CD has to rank up there as well. Hey Watchtower, when it comes right down to it, what you've written is actually your worst enemy.

Wait ... did I forget my TiVo? You take the HD tv signals and I'll take my TiVo, the greatest revolution in TV watching to date.

I am amazed at people with creative minds. They come up with the most amazing ideas. As for JWs, they are so illogical. I remember going out in service in a new housing development with lots of cul-de-sacs and winding streets. The elderly sister I was with said "their MINDS are as crooked as their STREETS." I never got the connection. Also, the idea that space flight and men walking on the moon was rebelling against god, like the tower of Babel, is another illogical idea. And the depth of their contempt for education is crazy. I remember being told over and over as a kid and young person that being smart was wrong, that obedience was more important than being smart and that being smart makes you arrogant, rebellious and stiff=necked. When you consider how ignorant and superstitious and rumor-ridden the average JW is, their contempt for education is almost laughable.

How about "pay at the pump"? That's so bloody marvelous, I'm surprised the Watchtower hasn't found something wrong with it.

I'm with the "no technology in paradise" idea being silly -- I never bought the idea, even as a true blue JW.
