Witness 007: this is exactly about disfellowshipping....I wonder who wrote it and why?
The episode was based on a short story by Robert Silverberg; the story was first published in the early 1960s in a collection of short stories he wrote. If you want to read the original story, it's available for affordable purchase here, or you may be able to find one of his collections in your local library:

I too liked Twilight Zone. A while back they ran a marathon of all their shows.(It took a week) I didn't have a DVD at the time but did have a VCR..I have them all on tape.Funny you should post this...although I don't remember that one I was just getting ready to watch them all again. I too loved " Maple Street.".
