    That's a good question!

Good comment on the Revelation study quote. A question that I have found to make Witnesses think (not a magic bullet question) is: How many firstborn sons does Jehovah have? They seem surprised to find that He has so many...

Here's one I read from a post on this site many moons ago...

Can you show me, just from the Bible, how you know that the "faithful and discreet slave" of Matthew 24 is the same group of people as the "144,000" from Revelation 7 & 14?

That is a question I have thought about alot. The truth is that they cannot . To really screw with their minds, find a perpetual calendar from the internet and ask them to correlate the events from the revelation book to the dates on the calendar . I have done this and nothing in the book comes close. That is the number of days mentioned in daniel, 1260, 2300 etc. I'm just taking these from the top of my head, I would look it up but I can't seem to find the revelation book. But the point is that the whole thing was made up by rutherford and being the idiot he was he didn't go to the work of checking the dates but just the years. Others on the net have done this also.

    hey Drew,

A side point I know but what doesnt add up for me is that Jesus was enthroned as king in October ( its always October) 1914.

Satan was thrown down in 1914( we "know" this because of because of WWI,) but WWI started in August, Not October.

Even if we say Satan was thrown down earlier, he managed to immediately organise a world war, in like no time, but it took 3.5 years for Jesus to "cleanse" the heavens in preparation for the heavenly resurrection.

Why would that take 3.5 years? And why is Satan a quicker organizer?

But the response you would get to your question is predictable and no where near as crazy as the random numbers at the end of Daniel pointing to JW conventions in the 20's.

Although it is a great question, wouldn't the average JW freak out and assume you were an ex-JW or apostate and pull the "why don't I come back next week when we have more time to discuss" or "we have some people waiting in the car...".

Doubtful they would ever return and you would miss out on a good scrote-twister.

The best suggestion I ever heard was to make sure you schedule an appointement for them to come back. Reach out and make it a point to say you will be expecting them. You can even get their phone numbers. The point would be to put the pressure on.

You are right that most would be quite fearful of somebody that knew so much about their religion. I think if you simply put it in the context of your interest in religion in general you would get a pass (at least in most situations).

    jefferywhat,

You bring up some good points.

I'd like to say though that the reason I like the question I came up with so much is because it brings together a number of important things that simply can't be done by pointing out flaws in their teachings.

    1. You are challenging them to use the bible alone, something they that desperately want to do. They love the idea of opening up their Bible and proving something to you. By asking them to do the impossible, you are forcing them to see that their "Bible only" message is a myth. You are forcing them to admit that the Bible alone is not enough to prove their message.

    2. You question a core idea taught by the Watchtower, mainly that their religion has been chosen by God. Usually JWs never want to defend this publicly, especially with people they do not know. You have brought some skeletons out of the closet and now they must look at them.

You can argue about many of the questionable details, but to me this question gets beyond things that could be labeled as "foolish debates" by the JW. You want to know if their religion was chosen by God or not. That's a pretty big issue, one that they cannot prove with the Bible alone. It puts them in quite an uncomfortable situation.
