no more or less than anyone else. In fact, with all the WTBTS requirements, I don't see how anyone could be lazy and meet all the requirements.

Are a lot of JWs lazy? Yes. I have seen it. I have heard them bitch about not having money, and then I offer them a job that they can do and they turn it down.

But, I was a JW and I wasn't lazy. My father is still a JW and he is one of the most hard-working men I've ever known. I've watched him work my entire life. I've seen him work until his fingers bled. He's in his 70s and still working.

I've known (and still know a few) brothers who work very hard and provide for their families. But you know what? The congregation looks down on those individuals because they don't more activley "persue the kingdom"! If you work hard and support your family, then you aren't viewed as spiritual. When I was a young witness, working hard and going to school, I had elders telling me that I should stop working so much and quit going to school so I can spend more time on "spiritual" things. I asked these elders if I quit school and work, who would provide for me? I could live at home until my already elderly parents were dead, but what happens after they're not around to foot the bill for me? Who would pay for my groceries and rent and medical care and my car? Could I turn in a monthly expense report to the congregation? Of course not! So, if I didn't want to be homeless, I needed to develop a skill, get a career and work. They didn't like that. So I told them to kiss my ass.

That was over 10 years ago. I'm a success, and they're still losers. The end.

I think many of them are lazy. They do put in huge amounts of hours, but so many of them drive like turtles and walk like snails. They spend more time at Starbucks or Tim Horton's than actually knocking on doors--sometimes they go to Dunkin Donuts instead. I, for one, was lazy while out in field circus and largely because I didn't want the work to be completed.

More serious is that they are too lazy to do their own thinking. They are content to let someone else do their thinking, even if doing so is harmful. So, they refuse to think for themselves. Those are the ones that are in it for years and years, despite how crappy they are treated or the blatant lies the Tower teaches them. (I bet that they are so dependent on someone else to do their thinking that, if the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger ever banned coffee, then Starbucks would lose significant business in its freestanding stores).

Like anyone some are hard-working and others are at the other extreme.

I think the issue is more complex than that.

To be under the control of another person, or in this case a company/religion, is stressful. There are so many rules, so many commands to do more, more, more. Study more, pray more, get to meetings more, and sell more. That is a lot of stress to put on a person. Emotionally it is exhausting.

Many have been "preaching" for years and have not brought anyone into the org (I was a JW for 22 years and never brought anyone in - thank goodness). Is it any wonder they crawl along, and go for extended breaks. They know it is not effective.

How many years can people go to meetings and hear the same recycled talks over and over. Or go to the same conventions and see the same people.

How many years do they spend watching ever move, every thought to be sure they are not breaking a rule or that no one sees them break a rule.

What about the emotional toll of broken familes and family members they have to treat as if they are dead.

The promise of a paradise that never comes. Is it any wonder they feel paralized seeking out a real education or a real career especially when it is so frowned on. Heaven forbid they take time off work to go to meetings.

The emotional and psychological toll of this is overwhelming to many. I agree some use this to avoid real work. But I think most are just worn out and worn down

Some are lazy but I think the overriding apathy is what is the most disturbing. Young men are
taught from a young age that they will achieve positions in the congregation for relatively little effort.
Why should they exert themselves out side the organization, they have immediate gratification every
time they walk in to a kingdom hall just for having a penis.

Young women are taught that they are second class citizens and not to expect too much. Years of mental abuse,
no real life experience and lack of mental stimulation has created an army of over medicated unhappy women.

I personally will never hire a witness to do any kind of work for me. They will do the least amount of work
they can get away with and still expect to be paid. They will expect your love of the brotherhood to cover
    their deficiencies.

In a nutshell, when you have nothing to look forward too, why make any effort at all?

collectivlly? yes... after all you dont have to 'think' ...mother will care for you and that can create a society of slackers...

I do know a lot of older JW's who worked hard... and were excellent craftsmen and good workers... there kids are the problem.

I'm with Lady Lee, the issue is a little more complex. There's only so much a person can do, and as far as the wts is concerned, it's never enough. In the process you lose your ability to think because we are all dependent upon one another to a certain extent. I read something the other day in VOL 6 p458 http://www.ctrussell.us/

...."without divine aid, mankind is powerless. A few make a vigorous struggle, and accomplish something; but none get free."

Went to a local tradition in these parts this past weekend that the churches sponsor in the winter known as lutefisk suppers. A Norwegian tradition. Haven't been in a church in a long time. How the truth, whatever you consider the truth to be, survived the cathaholic inquisition, is mind numbing. That so many here know that you can't go back to the church world that has no clue is obvious. You can't go back to the dubs obviously either. Does that make you lazy? No. There's an old addage that you need to learn from the mistakes of others because you can't live long enough to make them all yourself, and in most cases you haven't got the time or the resources to investigate every philosophical/religious doctrine out there. So it comes down to a matter of trust. The jw's gained your trust. They proved most of what you understood to be untrue. But now that you've either been kicked out or left on your own, OR looking for a hole in fence, there's no place else to go, except the world and it's materialistic/aetheistic/spiritistic mindset, that leads nowhere. I even heard Oprah has a new deal for those who reject scripture.

BUT IF YOU'RE NOT INTO ALL THAT THEN MAYBE THE FOLLOWING MIGHT GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO THINKK ABOUT

thou earnest not to thy place by accident,
it is the very place I meant for thee.
Have you asked to be made humble ? See then,
I have put you in the very place where this lesson is taught,
your surroundings and companions are only working out My will.
Are you in money difficulties ? Is it hard to make both ends meet ?
THIS THING IS FROM ME, for I am your purse bearer,
and would have you draw from and depend upon Me.
My supplies are limitless. {Phil. 4; to.) I would have you prove My promises.

Let it not be said of you in this thing ye "did not believe the Lord your God."' (Deut. 1; 33)
Are you passing through a night of sorrow THIS THING IS FROM ME.
Jesus was the Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
I have let earthly comforters fail you that by turning to Me
    you may obtain everlasting consolation,[1 Thcss. 2; 16, 17].
Has some friend disappointed you ? One to whom you opened out your heart ?
    THIS THING IS FROM ME.

I have allowed this disappointment to come, that you may learn that—
"The best Friend to have is Jesus, He will hear you when you call,
He will keep you lest you fall, The best Friend to have is Jesus" I want to be your confidant.
Has someone repeated things about you that are untrue ?
Leave them to Me and draw closer unto Me, thy Shelter,
out of reach of the strife of tongues, for,
"I will bring forth thy righteousness as the light and thy judgment as the noonday." {Psa. 37; 6'.
Have your plans been all upset ? Are you bowed down and weary ?
    THIS THING IS FROM ME.

You made your plans and then came asking Me to bless them,
but I would have you let-Me plan for you, and then take the responsibility,
for this thing is too heavy for thee.
Thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.
{Exodus 18; 18). You are only an instrument.
Have you longed to do some great work for Me ?
and instead been laid aside on a bed of pain and weakness ?
    THIS THING IS FROM ME,

I could not get your attention in your busy days,
and I want to teach you some of My deepest lessons. They also serve who only stand and wait.
I want you to learn to sing—"
I am not eager, bold and strong, All that is past. I am ready—not to do, At last—at last."
Some of My greatest workers are those shut out from active service,
that they may learn to wield the weapon of all-prayer.
Are you suddenly called upon to occupy a difficult and responsible position?
    Launch out on Me.
I am trusting you with the possession of difficulties
and for this thing the Lord thy God shall bless thee
in all thy works and in all that thou puttest thy hands unto.

(Deut. 15: 10;. Remember the pot of Holy Oil—
every interruption that would make you impatient, every word that pains you,
every revelation of your own weakness, be anointed with it. Interruptions are Divine instructions, the sting will go as you learn to see ME IN ALL THINGS.
