Pride. Would you like to have to own up and apologize for ruining generations of people? Best to stick fingers in ears, crouch in fetal position and rock repeating "I'm right, I know I'm right. I'm the spokesperson for god" over and over to self. Do not entertain even the mere hint of a thought that you just maybe might not be god's only spokesperson on earth. ever.
    Power.
Only way they know how to live.
Fear of the god they created(most probably believe the crap they teach).
Fear of their adherants (if they admitted they were not god's only spokesperson on earth--they got a lot of explainin' to do! Much blood guilt to answer for, etc. too much for their little consciences to account for, so they opt for denial).
It's like an abusive parent. They don't take that baby home, thinking they are abusive. Each blow they administer, each time they invalidate that child, they are showing "love" and "discipline". They insist on total control over their children's lives (that's what the abuse is really about). Even when their child reaches adulthood most abusive parents cannot admit (especially to themselves) they were abusive and simply apologize--it's too much guilt for them to bear.

It started out all very innocent. A group of believers studying the Bible publishing their thoughts. Russell was totally against organization. He knew it was trouble, which is why the Watchtower as he stated it was just a business, a publishing house to be used by the Bible Students, he believed it would all be over soon. And before he died and made plans to leave it in good hands. Although he was skeptical it would remain.

It didn't take long for some power hungry ones to take over and try to make a buc. Rutherford and his cronies did a good job of reorganization and polishing their wares, living like kings at the expense of others. By the time he was gone the damage was done. Instead of reversing the process, Knorr and Franz kept it going and made up doctrines to make sense of Rutherford's mess.

Today the Society is on auto-pilot, intent on staying alive, to survive. They've lost sight of their goal and now serve and idea! Sad, because they can do so much!

if you dont believe a gb member isnt worshipped, go to a district convention, or go wherever one of the old codgers speaks.

watch what happens after the meeting ends.

he is surrounded, and worshipped as something holy, even to the extent that people clamour after the pope when he's around.

i saw it first hand this year.

i lost my lunch on the cute sister sitting in front of me.

    edited for drunken corrections

    RoRo:

    You state:

    Russell was totally against organization.
If Russell was totally against organization, why did he form Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society only 2 years after starting the magazine?

If Russell was totally against organization, why did Russell then have ZWTTS legally incorporated 4 years later, so that his supporters could name ZWTTS as a beneficiary of their Will?

Yeh, I know that Russell made statements "against organization". However, such just goes to prove that he hypocritically preached one thing and did another whenever it served his purpose.

...the Watchtower as he stated it was just a business, a publishing house

Only a few months after Russell's death, C.J. Woodworth, one of Russell's righthand men, wrote that
the Watchtower corporation was one of the angels of Revelation in the Finished Mystery book:

8:3. And another angel. - Not the "voice of the Lord," mentioned in the preceding chapter, but the corporate body - the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society, which Pastor Russell formed to finish his work. This verse shows that, though Pastor Russell has passed beyond the veil, he is still managing every feature of the Harvest work "The Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society is the greatest corporation in the world, because from the time of its organization until now the Lord has used it as His channel through which to make known the Glad Tidings."--Z.'17-22; Rev. 14:18; 19:17.

I suppose that you will now argue that this attitude with regard to "organization" mysteriously appeared immediately after Russell's death?

MadMan, you're such a moron!! I'm talking about Church organization. The Society in Russell's day was not a organizaton. It was a publishing house. There is a difference. The Watchtower Society eventually became what he didn't want it to be.

    RoRo:

I am a "moron", for it takes a blunderhead to try to carry on a discussion with someone LIKE YOU, who is willing to lie and deceive, as you demonstrated in this thread:

BUT, you are also a BIGGER MORON!!!

First, you try to justify your earlier blunder by redefining your earlier verbiage by saying:

    I'm talking about Church organization.

BUT THEN, look at your very next sentence:

The Society in Russell's day was not a organizaton. It was a publishing house. There is a difference.
Are you asking us to believe that Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society, which Russell established as a legally incorporated ORGANIZATION was in fact NOT an organization?

Are you asking us to believe that ZWTTS was NOT a "church" or "religous" organization, but rather was an unorganized printer of religious materials? (If you lose your job at the Post Office, you can go to work for the WTS's Writing Dept.)

Save your illogical meanderings for your BS friends, who think JWs are morons and people like you are geniuses.

AGAIN, read ^^ABOVE^^ what Woodworth wrote about the "Society" only a few weeks after Russell's death.

As I said in the "Rutherford's Fault" thread, your WTS history book will obviously be nothing but the Bible Student's version of the Proclaimers book. You have aptly demonstrated that your "objectivity" is on the same level as is the WTS Writing Dept's.

    Wendy,

I honestly think that it started off as a snowball. Now it is an avalanche, and not one person knows how to stop it.

A more simple and accurate explanation of a massive problem I have yet to read.

    Thank you - HS

I agree with Mommy, this thing has gotten out of hand for them. But they could turn it around, maybe that is what they are trying to do, slowly turn it into a mainstream religion.

I don't think they have a secret agenda. Not everything about the WTS is rotten, it does have some redeeming qualities. For instance,

    1) worldwide brotherhood - this could be a good thing if there wasn't so much pressure to be perfect and conform to their every rule and regulation.

    2) I have seen some transformation of personalities (for the better) because of someone becoming a witness. However, I have also seen this with people who have joined other religions as well

    3) In times of disasters, the witnesses are very organized when it comes to helping their brothers. It should not be limited to just witnesses, but you can't argue with their organization skills.

    4) They advocate living clean, moral lives, honesty, obedience to the law and parents, etc.

Their biggest flaw is that they think they are the only religion on earth doing good things, that all other religions are from Satan. I think that is so sad.

I would love it if they would do away with the shunning, and allow people to make their own decisions as regards to blood, actually let them use their God-given consciences to make their own decisions about everything. I have many good, close friends that are JW's that I do not want to give up. We have good times and I have known them for years. At my age, I'm not really ready to start over, but it is so hard to stay in an organization that has become, IMHO, corrupt and does not teach the truth.
