Here's an excerpt from a news article posted today:

The Petaluma woman who won last week's Super Lotto Plus jackpot isn't completely sure what she and her family will do with the $80 million prize.

"We don’t want to get carried away, because we’re humble people, but I’m taking all my family out to dinner," said the woman, who chooses to remain anonymous. "I’d also like to take my family for a vacation in Hawaii.

Any chance these are fading JWs? I didn't know big winners like this had the option of remaining anonymous.

I would definitely want to remain anonymous if I won a large sum of money. I don't understand why some people want to draw attention to the fact they've received a huge sum of money.

I would certainly want to remain anonymous. i can't imagine how these people's lives change (for the worse) once everyone in the world knows their a millionaire. I mean, you'd have to worry about entirely different things, like going to a poor country and worrying about being kidnapped and held for ransom.

I don't know how they can remain anonymous either. Here, when you buy a ticket, it's stated that you consent to your name and photo being published. There are ways around that by hiring a lawyer from what I've heard to claim the money for you.

A friend of the family won $15 million recently. They had friends come out of the woodwork. I'd want to be anonymous, but since I know someone who won, it won't happen to me.

If they're fading dubs I hope they're smart enough to not drive to the Memorial in their brand new Bentley.

What smart people do when they win a large lotto, they hire an atty, set up a trust and then have the atty file all the paper work and the money goes into the trust. This way their information does not become public knowledge. It is possible to stay hidden.
