Maybe one day the JW elders will be more like Mormon elders, wearing name tags that identify them as elders because you'd never know it to look at them. All the JW kids will be encouraged to "reach out" and "make progress" with the goal of becoming an elder before their voice changes.

My brother inlaw from my ex marriage was made elder at the ripe old age of 19. As hard as it is to believe it is true. He was from a spanish congregation and was made elder in the early 70s. They do things different in the spanish congs.
I was only 25 when I was first appointed elder. In fact I was the youngest elder in our congregation. The other elders were in their 40s and 60s. A congregation near us had a 24 year old elder. Of course that was in the early 1970s and at the time the Society didn't appoint anyone younger than 20. Don't know what their age requirements are now.

Clyde was 21 when he was appointed Assistant Congregation Servant (second in command in the congregation) - that was before the current elder arrangement. He believed strongly that he should only use the Bible when making decisions--this didn't set too well with the other servants.
Yup. It does happen. I had to admit it, but I was one of the 20 something elders too.
I remember how weird it seemed to get all the inside dirt, including all the sexual misconduct history of just about everyone in the congregation after only being appointed for a couple of weeks.
That was pretty much all the training I received.
