This is actually good news - the WTS wouldn't select such young men if they had better candidates, so apparently they do not have better candidates.

Secondly, being appointed an elder has NOTHING to do with wisdom or experience and EVERYTHING to do with being a "company man," supporting and spouting the company line.

Think lower middle management at Wal*mart, your typical "Cheese and cracker men."

My brother was appointed an elder at around 25. I knew the details of his life and it seemed pretty ridiculous that he was appointed, especially when it is stated that jehovah provides some holy spirit in the decision making. I guess the holy spirit is not exceptionally gifted when it comes to selecting elders. It comes down to a few mentally defunct men in a back room seeking help with their responsibilities.

I am not sure of when but I was clearly on my way of being appointed as one back when I was 19 or 20.... I had a constant struggle between sticking to basics and controlling my ego from the 'worship' I received for being a 'boy genius' sort of speak...

But don't get me wrong... I didn't get there for having connections or influential parents... I got to that point that early for my love for others from a young age. Shepherding, conducting the wt study and other duties came natural to me and truly enjoyed uplifting others with my own research and such.

Unfortunately it had its cons as being in this position showed me what really happens behind closed doors... all the envy, wrong feelings, hypocrisy, etc that is part (at times) in the inner circles.

The last sheparding call I got was an elder around my age, and one who looked about 23. I told them he was still wet behind the ears.

my dad became an elder at 28 or 29. probably one of the worst days of my life...no the start of many worst days of my life to come. (my parents were very young when i made an oopsy in my mom's belly...they were in high school).

I was made a MS in 1972 when the elder arrangement started. I was 20 and had actually been doing the work of a Servant for a few years.

I was appointed an elder in 1978 a month after I turned 26. I became the Assembly Overseer about 5 or 6 years later.

It was and is unusual, but certainly happens.
