  Gas hit $3.45 per gallon here last week. That was for unleaded regular. Last night I paid $3.32 to top off my tank because I hear it will hit $4 per gallon tomorrow. I got 24.25 miles to the gallon on my last tank.

  We have a handicapped accessible van with a 350 V-6 engine. The wheelchair weighs around 220 lbs. You know that we're not getting the best gas mileage! Whew!

  Drive less and buy a more efficient car

  Drive slower

  Don't speed away from green lights and don't stop quickly

  Unload all of the junk you have in the trunk. A lighter car is more efficent.

  Always ask yourself: Is this trip really necessary?

  Every little bit counts and together adds up to a lot.

  I can't afford to buy a different car. And then if I did, I'd have a car payment and full coverage insurance to pay for. Then I'd also have to pay the high gas prices.

  The problem is, we can't make any extra trips hardly. Like to the library or park. I try to do all my errands and such in groups.

  Americans who don't have high means, we are going to be trapped really. I live by an interstate. To get to a lot of the things on foot, we'd have to cross on the bridge over the interstate. People get hit and killed by cars on that bridge.

  America is "free". The government can't easily oppress us because of this. There is something called economic opression though. And it looks more and more like this is the case with our high gas prices. High gas prices make all prices rise ridiculously. I am going to have to get a part time job or work OT to the tune of five-ten hours a week just to pay for gas. And I am a single parent to a 12 year old grandson. I don't get any help with his upkeep at all. Oh and I don't earn a huge paycheck either.

  London has a decent and affordable rapid transit system. Most of America doesn't. In America, we can't walk or ride bicycles everywhere either. Our roads are safe for cars, sometimes, but not meant for pedestrians. And then many of us live long distances from work as well. I drive 15 miles to my job, one way.
