I don't think it's fake. Maybe the other photo was retouched to remove Bible Students who left the WTB&TS after the schism of 1917. Menta Sturgeon at least was one of the dissenters. I checked the photo from the same pose (a different exposure) published in the 1 September 1910 Watchtower, and those two fellows are in the photo. So if it's a fake, it's a very old fake.

It is quite odd tho. I also layered the photos and they don't match unless one of the images is distorted with respect to the other. Do we know the provenance of the sepia photo?

Yes, I think also: it's a very old fake from 1910
the sepia photo comes from my archive
the sepia photo is this did not retouch originally of the ebayphoto.
The photo from the Watchtower 1 September 1910 is a second Photo.
The whole group stands completely differently. -

Thanks for the effort you have put into these pictures. I have seen a few of these. I noticed on the couple with the added guy above Russell
that he where's a top hat in one and not in the other although they could have taken a couple of takes. We have made a book on Religion, with all the flip flops, doctrinal issues
etc to keep all our discussion points at the fore front, we have this picture with Sturgeon in it but it would be nice to know what the real picture is.
