Good one, Sad emo. If love or forgiveness for our children were dependent on things like their doing the dishes or cleaning their rooms religiously (pardon the pun), none of us would love or forgive our children. They may screw up all over the place, but we still love them. We forgive them because we love them, because it is our nature. We love them even when they hate us. Another analogy that I like to use for my husband's benefit is that I don't make love to him because I am afraid of him or because he says so or because I'm trying to make him accept me, and it's not a privilege that's earned. It's an EXPRESSION of something beautiful and precious. We make love because we love each other, not vice versa. We also forgive because we love.

Grace is enough but how do you receive it? First you must confess your sins, Romans 10:8. You must have faith as you confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and believe that he died for you and was raised to life. This in turn gets you saved and you are acceptable to God. If you are sincere about your relationship with God your faith will cause you to live a godly life.

    Hamilcarr,

    You said:

I disagree on this. Two verses before, James says about Abraham: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? How comes we are not saved by works if these very same works make our faith perfect? Imo, he doesn't claim righteous works are an 'outward evidence' of our faith, but rather the opposite. Besides, the Greek word used for 'declared righteous' is the same in Romans 4:5 and James 2:24, so it's incorrect to assert Paul and James are talking about two different concepts. Salvation, sanctification and justification are inextricably intertwined. Can you show any scriptural evidence for the distinction you're hinting at.

My reply: To whom was Abraham's faith by his works made perfect to? Man. Man can not read man's heart- God can. God does not need to see our works- visible to the eye- to be able to see our intangible faith. IF man's works made his faith perfect toward God the Ephesians 2:9 would be rendered invalid- as man would then have grounds to boast before God.

If grace is not enough, what do you think will impress God? Your lack of perfection? Your failed attemps at it?

well said deputy- Do you think God is ever impressed or at awe by someone putting in 50 hrs in the door to door work, or that they commented 4 times during the WT study while only missing 2 meetings over the past 25 yrs?

Or even away from the WT do you think our kind deeds impress God (as if he couldn't surpass us)?

That looks like works to me.

My bible says I was chosen in Christ before I did any of those things.

    Eph 1:3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ; 4 according as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, 5 having predestined us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

    Deputy,

Jesus did tell us what our one work would be:

Jhn 6:28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

Jhn 6:29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

So this is the work, to build our faith, to believe. Good works naturally follow true faith, they do not earn salvation.

isaacaustin I asked those questions to some Mormons one time. You should have seen the wind go out of their sails when I asked them to pretend I was God so I could see how I could be impressed by their works.

isaacaustin I'm a slow typer missed your last post I agree that those works are a result of being saved, not a way to get saved.
