Makes no difference why they are stupid but simply that they are. After all they falsely claim that they alone have the truth. There is no reason to cut them any slack for such ignorance. They are also cruel to others and glad about it. This goes well beyond just stupid. Sure there are other ways to describe them that are more descriptive and accurate. I am just being nice.

I've seen more than one newly exited witness smack their forehead and ask themselves, "How could I have been so stupid?" Wouldn't you say, nicolau, that this sort of awakening, or "aha" moment is shortly followed with a sense of remorse? It as if a great fog has lifted and all has become clear.

A reformed Witness can very much be like a reformed smoker. Now that they've found the strength to walk away, it's abundantly clear that the rest of the cult addicts should do the same. Yet many remain content in their delusion, unwilling to give it up.

I would say it takes a great deal of mental energy and mental gymnastics to keep an organized delusion going year after year, even with blatant evidence to the contrary. As the "end times" keeps getting extended, year after year, with that tenuous grip from 1847, 1917, 1918...and the "world" keeps ticking along, making mistakes, making improvements....retirement, old age, and death creeps closer and the faithful follower keeps plugging away, pretending their ever faint hope is glowing brighter and brighter, not realizing they are glowing not from health but rather from mild insanity and misplaced zeal...

I agree. My sister, who is still a diehard dub, was valedictorian of her class, and offered college scholarships. The sad fact of the matter is, she was born into a mind-control cult. Apart from their theological beliefs, many are quite intelligent.

Jehovah's Witnesses aren't stupid - just " cult mind controlled " . Even really intelligent people can be duped by mind control from a cult. Read Steve Hassan's " book, " Combatting Cult Mind Control " and you'll see that

i dont consider myself to be stupid.... but i was incredibly vulnerable when i bought into the b0rg's sales pitch.....and most of the congo members were quite bright and articulate..... just sincerely misled

JW's seem to have a cross section of liabilities. It astounds me how gullible they can be. My excuse is also being raised in it, so I often wonder why my parents got involved and my only answer could be untreated mental illness and the Vietnam war. After all my father didn't want to go to war (which is smart), so I think he either lost his mind then became a "minister". As far as being stupid, it is a very narrow description.

I think one of the most difficult aspects of leaving the witnesses is the feeling of superiority. As a faithful witness, we may not have had money, riches, power or whatever other "worldly" concept, but we had the true religion and God had chosen US over any other group on earth.

After leaving, some ex-witnesses continue to keep that "special" feeling and look down their nose at witnesses, painting them all with the same brush that they used to paint "worldly" people. Still preachers, just the message has changed in my opinion.
