Hi Meta,
It's pretty pathetic, alright, but an integral part of their ``ain't we great?'' gospel. Of course their idealised revisionism of the Nazi era omits the contemptible pandering to Hitler's anti Anglo-American and anti-Jewish sentiments by Rutherford in his infamous 1933 ``Declaration.''
There's real irony in his statement to the effect that ``the Anglo-American government is the most opporessive on earth,'' esepecially when viewed retrospectively through the prism of history, as subsequent events revealed Nazism to be a historic monstrosity, while the enlightned humanity and tolerance of the American judicial system reaffirmed the rights of JWs to practice their whacko relifion (43 times by the Supreme Court, I believe).
Another irony: I remember one Circuit Overseer decrying nostalgia with the observation that ``worldly folks are consumed with their memories because all tney have is the past; their future is dreadful.''

They are obsesses with WWII because look at their ages--the GB was ALL alive during WWII and shirking their civic responsibility.
Therefore, they need to continually reinforce that they did the right thing. Especially since the REAL heroes, the war veterans, are getting so much attention after all these years.

Good point, Lisa
I really wonder when these guys run out of stuff to put in
the magazines - especially the Awake - it's starting to look
kinda like a cheap Readers Digest for people with a junior
high school reading level.metatron

I used to buy into the "ain't we great, we stood up to the Nazi's", (in fact, it's one of the few things, I still admired about them after I'd been sickened by all their other lies and hypocrisies) UNTIL I read the hateful, antisemitic remarks made by Rutherford. They can be read in detail on Kent's site. JW's are nothing but pandering, opportunists. This Nazi thing has played out quite well for them, but it wasn't out of any sort of noble principal (one really MUST read the comments made and propogated by Rutherford regarding Jews).
And what about people such as my mother-in-law? A Dutch Catholic during the war and occupied Netherlands. She is loathe to discuss her experiences. You have to pry them out of her, because, you see, she is not on a crusade to prove Catholicism is the true religion, or that she, her family, and her neighbors are saintly bastions of the only true religion on earth. Among the morsels I have pried out of her, are seeing the execution of her neighbors. Nazi storm troopers storming the house where they were hiding people--stabbing their bayonettes through the baseboards all throughout the house. Clothing and aiding people who had no where else to turn. All this because she was Catholic? Maybe part of it. Mostly because she was a HUMAN BEING. Oh, but according to the WTBTS, she and others are bird food. They are not baptized Jehovah's Witnesses. And when the storm troopers left her house without finding the obvious, does she explain it in miraculous terms ("their eyes were blinded by god, because we're god's chosen people). No. They had no agenda, other than to help her fellow human beings.
And you can't tell me those witnesses didn't want to just bow down to those soldiers who drove in and liberated those camps. Young soldiers. Boys (c. 18). sweethearts. brothers. sons. Soldiers who'd watched their buddies' lives seep out on the battlefield. Yes, the same soldiers (human beings) condemned to death and to be eaten by birds, because (say it with me) THEY AREN'T BAPTIZED JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES.
This is quite possibly one of the most ignoble, dishonorable, dishonest, opportunistic to the absurd, vomitous religious corporation on earth.
Their spin on the Nazi's should only be accompanied with Rutherford's quotes about Jews.
