Average unleaded petrol (gas) price in London is £1.08 = $2.15 per litre.
    1 US gallon = 3.79 L
    3.79 x $2.15 = $8.15

That's the price per US litre equivalent, $8.15 not $11.00. Still very expensive I suppose in comparison to US fuel prices.

Just wondering if part of that price is taxed and used for health care, Greendawn.

Here I pay $3.47/gallon but, health insurance would cost me $460/month through my employer.

    Somethings gotta give.

And considering every product on every store shelf is also going to cost more it's not just painful at the pumps. I hope everyone grabs some oil stocks to hedge/offset the impact of future spikes. They will happen again.

BFD out of that typical price of £1.08 per liter, £0.50 is a flat rate fuel duty and around £0.16 (about 15% of the total price) is value added tax (VAT) so the total tax for the government is £0.66 per litre or 61% of the fuel price. In 2005 the government got a handsome £23 billion revenue from fuel taxes.

I suppose some of it goes on the national health service but as it increasingly becomes second rate with long waiting times for operations many people turn to private medical insurance.

Greendawn, I can't imagine to be able to afford health insurance premiums with the price I pay for gas now along with everything else. Today I paid over $10 for just under a pound of coffee. It's going from bad to worse at this point. The containers are shrinking and the prices are going up.

I know that high oil prices will hurt the economy short term. Long term it will be good; because, this will encourage alternatives that would never be developed while cheap gas was plentiful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algaculture#Algae_as_an_energy_source

Try driving a diesel truck and that pig would seem fat.

And I thought I was shafted today: $3.46/U.S. Gallon. I guess it could be worse.

Just be glad you are not a Jehovah's Witless out in field circus. The combination of no education and higher gas prices (and food prices, because of those beanbrains that want to use the most inefficient, stupid "alternative" possible) are going to hit the witlesses right in the wallet. They are not making much, and they have to cut back in secular employment. That makes money a scarce commodity, and most of it goes into a gas tank that is being drained all the time out in field circus.

Hopefully, it means less people out in field circus. People are going to have a harder time draining credit accounts with the credit crunch, too. Which means less money for gas, and thus less time out in field circus. Of course, the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger is still going to be demanding more time out there, showcasing the stories where someone generously donated money for gas so they could continue out in field circus.

And no, I am not going to donate even one penny for gas on those witlesses. That's their problem.
