Jesus never existed!

I can't believe there have been no responses from the believers of the bible on this subject, I would be interested to hear what they have to say.

Perhaps they read the disclaimer, which stated: "I think it would interesting to hear the claims that suggest that he never truly existed." In which case, what could a "believer of the bible" have to say? Wouldn't this be going against what such persons believe?

Just askin'... and peace to all!

SA, who is not a "bible believer" but thought it would help to point out the obvious...

Why is it important to you to prove Jesus did not exist? I have another question for you: were you raised in the org?

I stand by what I said on page 1 of this thread, except for the following error:

I believe that during the life of King Josiah, the last in the Davidic line of rulers in Judah, the prophecy was
born that there would be a king in the line of David forever.

I believe Zedekiah was the last of the Davidic line of kings, but Josiah tried to rally the nation
behind Yahweh and get them to abandon other gods. The writer of Samuel and Kings seems to bend over
backward to heap praise upon Josiah. It would appear to us skeptics that Josiah was still in power
when that portion was written down, and they were kissing up to him.

I don't know about her, but I have a personal grudge against this supposed Jesus for eradicating centuries of my ancestral pagan culture with his philosophies of weakness and self-loathing. "They killed all the great warriors and left behind only weeping martyrs" (can't remember the source right now). If this "Jesus" never existed, we're one step closer to rejecting his philosophies.

Interesting. And were you raised as a JW or in a strict fundamentalist religion? By the way, is it Jesus you hold a grudge against? Or are you holding grudges against the people claiming to speak on his behalf or authoring churches in his name? How do you know the things people say he said are truly attributeable to him?

I'm still "in" the dubs, though I see through their lies as clearly as I see that the bible is a pile of crap. Jesus told his followers to "go make disciples" - they went ahead and basically eraticated the cultures of all European tribes, replacing it all with boring old Christi(ns)anity. He also said something about "whoever wants to follow me must disown all his friends, family, and even himself, and pick up his torture stake and follow me". Which is why I referred to a "doctrine of self-loathing".

Doom, you have my sympathies for still being in the org.

We don't know if Jesus said those things. People have always used religion to control other people. Why would they miss an opportunity to misuse Jesus in the efforts?

Well, if you don't believe that Jesus said the things that are recorded in the Bible (pretty much the only source of anecdotes) then you really don't know anything about him at all. So, I bear no animosity to the Jesus who did not say the things recorded in the gospels (if he didn't say all that then I don't know who the hell he was)... but I still dislike the Jesus (or whoever it was) that said the things recorded in the gospels.

I'm saying that you don't know that he is quoted properly.

Making him an even more nebulous and shadowy figure in the pages of history.
