Baseball was my religion. The Boston Braves were my team. The love of money ruined baseball. Sorry to be short.

Hey, Golf, I still love baseball. I think I might enjoy the minor league better. These guys often make only $1500 per month. I like high school football and college better than Pro Football. It may end up being the same with baseball for me. I get sad when my favorite players retire or go to other teams. I almost am a fan of individual players like Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux or John Schmoltz, more than say the Braves.

To bad the love of money has ruin so many good things. For an individual sport, golf is one great exercise and past time.

i remember "the srike" and how disillusioned my grade school son was when the season just aborted........ we used to sit and watch twins and cubs and brewers ..... he would wear his little blue fielder's glove

the strike soured that for us........

anyway..... i still love the game in all its manifestations

A little girl was overheard talking to herself as she
strutted through the backyard, wearing her baseball
cap and toting a ball and bat: "I'm the greatest
    hitter in the world."

Then, she tossed the ball into the air, swung at it,
    and missed.

"Strike One!" she yelled. Undaunted, she picked up the ball
and said again, "I'm the greatest hitter in the world!"

She tossed the ball into the air. When it came down she
swung and missed again. "Strike Two!" she cried.

The girl then paused a moment to examine her bat and
ball carefully. She spit on her hands and rubbed them
together. She straightened her cap and said once more,
"I'm the greatest hitter in the world!"

Again she tossed the ball up in the air and swung at it.
She missed as usual. "Strike Three!"

    "Wow!" she exclaimed.

"I'm the greatest pitcher in the world!"

    stike out swinging!!

Thank you for the story, Chick Pea. I guess I am just not going to let strikes and money ruin the game for me. I figure that actors and actresses make millions per movie and they don't have to swing at curve balls flying past them at 110 MPH. They don't have to pictch 100 mile and hour fast balls either. I once heard a player say that even on a good day, it's still damn hard hitting a hard as a rock ball speeding toward you at 100 plus. It takes great skill to be even one of the worst players on a major league team. My hat is off to them. If I were that talented and the owners and advertisers were making millions off me, I'd expect to get my fair share of the profits.

i hear ya, FHN.... just saying that whatever "the magic" was for the lad disappeared after that season that wasnt, and he never sat with me for another game......

i learned my lesson about how hard and fast those balls are moving in a batting cage with a metal bat..... i think my bones are still buzzing 10 years later!!!

We went to see the West Michigan Whitecaps play today. They won 4-0. There was a lot of fun to be had. They really include the children and allow them to run the bases after the game. Julian waited in line for a good while and he passed every kid running and didn't miss a base. He bought a coffee mug for the Champion 2004 season that was huge and marked down to $4. The White Caps were champions of the midwest league for the past two seasons and are top in their division this season.

Our team was very skilled. The pitcher was from the Dominican Republic and pitched all nine innings. I felt a bit sorry for the opposing team, The Quad City Bandits. Their designated hitter struck out one time. I am not sure how he did the other times he was at bat.

Our pitcher pitched the entire game, even after being knocked to ground by a line drive to the shin. Instead of the standard organ, there was a trumpet. The three guys behind us spoke spanish the entire game. They seemed to get a real kick when the trumpeter played Mexican Hat Dance.

Chicky-babe, I'm so happy that you all got to enjoy baseball together this afternoon. I discovered back in the 90's stellar Braves times, that baseball makes me feel carefree like a kid again. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

I listened to the Twins game on the radio today, as has been a frequent pastime of mine since the age of 10. (They're not on the same station any more, but times change.)

The Twins had won the first 2 games of the series against the Detroit Tigers (picked by many to go to the World Series this year). However, the Tigers jumped to a 6-0 lead today in the first inning. The Twins chipped away at the deficit, and finally overcame it and won 7-6. It was the most incredible win this year. My team is in first place right now! Woo hoo!
