Every day of my life for the last 10 1/2 months I ask myself how? How did I believe that crap? With all my heart? How did I stop thinking for myself at the ripe old age of 21?

I don't think most of us believed it all. I think we found ways to deal with the issues that created cognitive dissonance. I along with others would say that the WTS was not perfect but it was the best of a bad lot.

I just realized there is more to it beyond self-deception, deliberately deceiving others, teaching a lie. Reading the older publications really opened my eyes, I realized that the WTS had not told us their history and kept the information hard to find.

    It was all I knew!

My first spoken word was "Jehovah" my first song was "Christian Youth".

My entire association, save some non-JW family members, were Witnesses.

Any doubts why I swallowed it whole?

To be honest I have a harder time understanding why anyone would choose to join the organization as an adult. I'm 3rd generation and although I wonder why I didn't wake up sooner, many do not at all.

yeah I look back and think, what was I thinking? I mean I was brought up in it - but surely I could have figured it out sooner than I did!

Exactly. And it took a really long time to disbelieve it all...............very gradual deprogramming.

All I ever knew from the age of 6 was...

    No Heaven for me

No such thing as a Trinity

    Hell just can't be

Better listen to the Governing Body

Then one day I looked behind the curtain.

Realizing that being a Jehovah's Witness means to be arrogant and haughty. I used to view non-JWs as evil bad associations and suspected them without really knowing why. Now, as a ex-JW, I really like everyone ... no more hate and fear. You just have to wake up sometime.

I hate these topics! This is where I have to confess to all you born-in's that I married in. A grown woman with three kids!

I don't wonder, I shudder at how the hell I believed it all.

I'm in theraphy, it will be okay.

Just like people of all backgrounds become Witnesses, people
    of all backgrounds leave.

It is not due to intelligence level, educational level, income,
    etc.

The good thing is that we are out, or are getting out. No more
lies and BS from the Society and local elders. No more cover-ups from
Headquarters about library cards and parking money.
