I just had to restrain her. I have been avoiding that, but it is safe for her, and at least I can get out of the room for a few minutes at a time.

So hope this doesn't backfire on me

the only way she could backfire on you ....is if you feed her brussel sprouts...

Well that worked for a FAT five minutes. Want to know how to make an old woman mad as a wet cat?

ninja, I learned not to feed her brussel sprouts a bit ago.

It is sad how things turn around isn't it? My grandma used to tie my dad to the clothes line because he would follow his dad into the city-at 3 yrs old!! She had 3 other kids, one older, TWO younger. She didn't have the time to chase him down the street!

Does your mom like game shows? My hubby's grandma sits all day and watches the game show network-heaven for her!

The only thing on TV that I can have on is FOX News. She was addicted to that before her stroke, so now it seems to calm her down. If I have to sit in here with her, like every miniute lately, I try Food TV , travel channel, anything.....but after a bit, then she starts squirming. I'm getting use to it now, but at first I didn't think I was going to make it. Old movies are the only other thing that works. JWD is my distraction.

Do you have any sisters that can help you?

My mother-in-law had a stroke a few years ago, and my two sister-in-laws would each take turns with her at their house, a week at a time. My wife would go and help often. Plus, their husbands would help take her from the wheelchair, to the potty chair, then to the bed. It took a lot of pressure off all of them.

I hope you are getting family help, wings.

Well I ahve a friend who plays the sims game on her computer. We used to work tech support together. When she had a particularly hard day. ( customers not listening and old women telling her that they'd rather speak to a man who knew what he was talking about.) She would go home and create a sims family on her computer. She would name them after the customer. She wouldn't teach them how to cook or swim. Then she would buy a stove and a pool for the house. Eventaully they would drown or set the house on fire and then she would have tombstones with the customers name in the front yard of the sims house. That usually made her feel better.

That is my joke and suggestion to blow off steam.

I hope you are getting family help,

I am, thanks. I moved here to be closer to my sister. She works full time, but helps when she can. I should ask for more help (my therapist is working on this with me), but she can be such a martyr, it is hard for me to want to go through that. My daughter also helps. I couldn't do it alone.

My mother has a life long history of mental illness. I think I am just in one of her manic swings. Hopefully it won't last forever. It has just been a hard week.
