I wonder how they rationalized that word with:
1Cor2:17 [We are;] for we are not peddlers of the word of God as many men are, but as out of sincerity, yes, as sent from God, under God’s view, in company with Christ, we are speaking.
JWs only stopped being peddlers of the word when they stopped peddling and switched to a donation arrangement. Now they just go begging from door to door, not peddling. Much better.
Perhaps they do so in fulfillment of Mat5:3 :
(Matthew 5:3) 3 "Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the kingdom of the heavens belongs to them.
Footnote reads: "beggars for the spirit".
But some other scriptures may apply:
(Galatians4:9) . . .But now that YOU have come to know God, or rather now that YOU have come to be known by God, how is it that YOU are turning back again to the weak and beggarly elementary things and want to slave for them over again?
