Where I live in Australia we have tonnes of bugs and FLIES as big as rats! Spiders would make webs on the house near windows to catch the bugs so after buying the house we put in fly screens on all windows and doors...problem solved....also my Dog jumps up and snaps at any that get in....I Love my dog!

My Max kitty catches bugs also. I had no idea cats were bug hunters. Max will pounce on anything that moves, including people. He used to beat up the dog daily, but they have come to some sort of understanding.
Cats are amusing little guys.

They would just chomp a token leg off (sort of like a miniature drumstick) and let the cricket go. Cats are ruthless.
OMG I about spewed my tea reading that and the rest of your narrative...LOL That was hilarious.
My old cat Zac, who died a couple of years ago at the age of 14, was the best spider killer...I HATE spiders....always wondered how he never got bit....
My new kitten, Max, 9 months old now, she is just starting to learn the art of bug killing. She has let me know about a couple spiders...but I had to kill them....she is not sure about them yet. Thankfully no mice anymore.
Momz:
I miss my cat,
I miss my cat Zac.. but Max(ine) has been a great companion, even if she is mean in the evening after I leave her home alone all day.

My cat Calvin could care less about spiders ( not that the little bitty ones here in Canada offer much sport for him) but don't let him even suspect a mouse. He is a fabulous mouser and taught my little primadonna Sasha to mouse as well.
Sasha prefers to watch him do the work.

thanks for the critter stories folks! They are fabulous. FHN, next time you see a scorpion, spray it with that cheap really stiff hairspray from the drug store. I use that - they stiffen up in seconds and then you can scoop them up and flush them down the drain.
