So I was cooking supper a few hours ago and I broke up a dried birds eye chili with my fingers into my pasta sauce. Now supper is finished and I am relaxing and I get an itchy eye - I rub my eye... &*%$ ... It is 45 minutes later and my eye is still sore!

What stupid self inflicted injuries have you suffered and what can you recomend for a burning eye?

PDB, the same thing has happened to me several times, especially with jalapeno or cayenne peppers.

dried bird's eye???? WTH??? In my life those injuries come from chili peppers....serranos are the most guilty. I recommend water splashed on it, and wash your hands a few times.

    This too shall pass.....

Ooops! Occupational hazard when dealing with peppers. Rinse well with cold water, silly girl!

Used to do that every time we roasted peppers to freeze for chili verde.

I pulled a bone-headed stunt on Saturday. Was grilling some shrimp-kebobs on metal skewers. Lifted up the BBQ lid to turn 'em and without using my head, grabbed the end of the first metal skewer. Acutally heard a sizzle as the skin on my thumb & forefinger was seared. Now, I have a perfect "ring" on the tips.

    Dumb ass.

I've done so many dumb things, where can I start?

I was making fried chicken once and realized I had forgotten to put salt in the breading. So, I stood over the chicken, which was frying in boiling grease, and began salting the chicken. I accidentally dropped the salt shaker and boiling grease splashed over my hand and wrist, leaving third degree burns.

If I were you, I'd call your eye doctor. Your vision is too important to take chances.

Kinda off-topic, but the google ad displaying at the bottom of the page in my browser for this topic is for Herpes medication.

    What the hell?
