Oh, and, forgot to add...I absolutely could not watch Pet Sematary after I had my daughter. It creeped me out totally.
Any Stephen King Readers?

The Green Mile and the Shawshank Redemption are excellent examples of his overall writing abilities. Glad someone else loved Geralds Game and Rose Madder!! As far as really creeping you out I have to say that Pet Sematary is the numero 1, with Salem's Lot a close 2nd place. Love the Running Man written under the Backman pseudonym...

He is a great writer. I have read most of his Novels, my favorites are:
Misery, Thinner, Rose Madder, Geralds Game, Insomnia, Carrie, Doloeres Claiborne, Needful things.
He has so many, and I didn't realize he had so many short stories. Everything is listed here: http://www.stephenking.com

The Stand
Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Also, he wrote a short story called "I Know What You Need" that was excellent.

p.s. "I Know What You Need" is included in The Night Shift collection already mentioned by Captain Schmideo. I read it in a different anthology.

I've read everything that has been mentioned. Rose Madder was great too. I doubt I could even narrow it down to a top 10!

I stopped at Rose Madder, just got sidetracked, still have to read that one (but looking forward to it). Loved his early short work. The Stand was a particular favorite.

Love Stephen King. Just when you think he's gone as far as he can go he takes off again. Geralds Game really was the scariest for me. You might try Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child (They write together and separately) FBI Agent Pendergast is fun, F. Paul Wilson is good too (especially the Repairman Jack series). Most of these are written in order so try to get started from the first one.

White Dove, I read The Stand in two days. I think it's over 1,000 pages. I can't remember now, but I couldn't put it down. All of his books are good, even the ones he's written under psuedonyms. I like the Dark Tower series, too. I've been reading his books probably since I was 10. He's awesome.

Most people know King from his books (and subsequent film dramatizations of them), but his short story game is A-one, and I believe it is his favorite.
