They give a statistic about how many teen drivers go out for a drive and never come home.
My daughter will be 15 in October and will get a learner's permit. I had dreaded the day they started driving since they were about 10.

I'm sure you're freaked out!! My son is only 9 and I was thinking the other day, OMG he will be driving in 6yrs!!!!
Your daughter will be fine! Allstate is crazy!! I know I worked for them for years... I'm an agent for a different company now, let's just say...I'm a good neighbor!
I'm still freaked out and my son is 28, everytime he hits the highway on a trip I'm stressed.
I don't think any mother ever stops worrying..

My oldest son is 14, he has a girlfriend and can't wait to take driver's ed and get his licence. I can wait.
my 17 YO son has his GDL (graduated dr lic.... incremental driving privileges concerning non-family passengers)
he has made some pretty lame, teen-aged decisions and we have severely curtailed his driving .... he was pissing and griping about it and when that commercial came on i told him>>>> i would rather sit here and listen to you malign me and hate me for acting like a parent than to EVER have to know what it feels like to be one of THOSE parents
It's the scariest thing in the world when you first let your teen take the car out on his/her own.
The second scariest thing is when they don't arrive back home at 12:00 like they were told to.
The third scariest thing is when they don't answer their cell phone when you call.
I hear you guys. My daughter is smart. Maybe it's just me reliving all the close calls I had? Maybe it's just the fact that I won't know where she is at all times.
Oh well, she has brains, and she's not much of a follower.
When my older girls got their license, I hoped they would soon have a mild fender bender. I did soon after i got my license and it quickly woke me up to the seriousness of driving.
I got my wish and it had the same effect on them too. It changed their whole attitude about it.
But yeah, those commercials are scary,
By her choice, my stepdaughter didn't get her license until she was 18. One of the first few times she took her car out alone, a police officer came to our door. I was pretty much hysterical by the time I answered his knock. Her name is the female version of my husband's name, and I burst into tears as soon as he uttered the first syllable of their names. The cop looked at me like I was nuts. As it turned out, he was looking to speak to my husband about a non-legal, non-accident matter. I calmed down after that, until my stepson got his license at 18 (not his choice, but we were wise to make him wait). He skidded into a ditch after just a few months of driving, and it scared him so bad that he tried to talk his dad into taking him to work that day. My husband told him no, because he didn't want his kid turning into me; a person who has panic attacks when driving in snow. They're both ok so far, and they've both been driving for a 2 to 4 years.
It is a scary commercial. The sad thing is it can happen. It did happen to three of my classmates before my senior year in high school. I could have been in the car with one of them but said no.
Some things you never forget.
