Whatever you decided to him your Great Cat, you should read the ingredients and the first should always be meat and no meat-by-product. The next ingrd. should be veggies and then possibly rice or barley. Dry is not always the best for cats, especially males as they have urinary issues and are less likely to drink enough water. They should always get fresh water and if possible a water fountain that filters the water on a regular basis.
Some cats refuse to eat wet food. My female cat refuses to eat wet. That being the case, what I have found that is considered the best dry food is Evo. Evo is sold at the higher end pet stores. It is extremely high in protein.
In researching cats, I read that cats are scavengers by nature and if you hide their food it gives them a physical and metal activity. They will find the food eventually.
Cats can also eat certain bones. There is a pet food company somewhere in middle IL that makes cat food that has bones in the can, but from what I can tell that stuff is really expensive.
I have two cats. They are very different as the male eats anything he can put in his mouth, he is like a 2 year old as I am constantly saying what is in your mouth and forcing it open and pulling whatever out of it. The female is a princess and lays around waiting for the grape-leafed clad men to come fan her and feed her grapes. That might explain why she weighs 17 pounds and my male weighs 7. Yes, the vet is unhappy that she is as fat as she is and thus the reason I researched what food would be best and what I can do to try and get her to lose weight. She use to weigh 21 pounds, so it is an accomplishment that I got her to lose what weight she has!
