A brother from Bethel saw I had bought myself a big screen T.V {80cm tube 1996} this was the best T.V at the time. {I always wanted one} He STARED for some time, and mentioned in passing that he never watched Television at all. And that this could be slowing down my Ministry. He had been interviewed on the D.Convention platform. He made us feel bad for watching "Friends" instead of reading the bible. Latter he gives a talk about how much time people spend watching T.V instead of on spiritual matters. And how people were buying bigger and more expensive entertainment units. No doubt talking about me.

Were you ever made to feel bad for your "meterial things."

Yes, my big house. We finally got to get out of our doublewide trailer and build a beautiful brick 4000 sq ft house on a golf course. An elder made disparaging remarks about it to me. I told him we loved our new home and when he drove by he should have come in and I would have made him coffee.

Don't you hate it when they do that...!!!

That happen to me when I bought my home, after my hubby, at the time passed away. Nice brick, yes, it was too large for just me and my daughter...So What... I could afford it and it wasn't none of their business... comments were made anyway.

How are you going to mow all that...?????????

They then started coming up with ideas of how "They" could use it... Nice size for book study, big wrap around drive way...good for get togethers, walk out basement, good for close families in case of storm, huge back lot, if Brother's wanted a communal garden...etc...

I thought... "Would someone ask me if all that was OK"... !!

They just kinda took over for awhile...lol

Boy, was I a push over back then...

    So true....

Another time, a Sister was selling Tupperware...

I didn't go to the party, just ordered thru the book, I bought $100 worth and didn't think anything about it, since I didn't have any at all. I just got the basics, nothing fancy...

She announced to the other Sister's at the next Book Study, that I had bought enough for her to count it as a separate party...

You could have heard a pin drop...total silence and staring at me...

I said..."What, I didn't have any"...!!!, made me feel like I had done something wrong...

You didn't have to buy extravagant items for them to judge you...I mean come on, it was Tupperware...sheeesh.

I hope you enjoyed the hell out of your TV...

Me neither, I never ask how much a person spent on something, none of my Business... I think it's rude...

    Enjoy...

There was an elder's school in our circuit one time and the DO said in one of the talks that he could not understand why elder's would buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle. I later found out that one of the prominate elders in the circuit had just recently bought a HD.

How about my CDs? They practically had a stroke when they saw the size of my music collection, and that was on top of the "bad" songs that were hidden in the collection.

Good thing they never saw my computer, my Xbox, video games, my two Nintendo DS's, my Christmas decorations, or all the mini discs I use to compile my music onto.
