Yeah see....the D.O is angry because he lives in poverty, making his $40 dollars a month from the society, so he uses his position, to critisize some hard working, well off, Elder with a Harley.....what a Jerk!
Did other Brothers critisize you for your "meterial things." My big T.V!

But.....I bet they all take nice vacations...its really just where you decide to spend your money.
People do envy unfortunately....we have heard snide remarks over the years, but really did
not care.

For the past 10 years we haven't had anything extravagant. Any money that came in was spent entertaining others, not accumulating anything. But one family in particular was always making comments about how materialistic I was. I don't have a clue why. Never had new clothes, new car, new anything. My tiny house is a construction site. Only thing I can figure is my american accent just made them think "materialistic". Bizarre.
We were in a very wealthy congretion about 15 years ago. Again, we were basically dirt poor at the time, but happy. We invited all of our new friends from ou new congregation over to the house for a BBQ. Not one person showed up. We found out later nobody wanted to come to our low-class area. There was no fear of crime, just hard-core blue-collar. Now they were materialistic jerks.

What a terrible thing to do to you...all your kindness and effort you put forth to put this on...that's the ultimate ignorance shown to someones generosity.
Pisses a person off......

There was an elder's school in our circuit one time and the DO said in one of the talks that he could not understand why elder's would buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle. I later found out that one of the prominate elders in the circuit had just recently bought a HD.
Yeah," I'll take a Vespa, please".

I always found it helpful to know what other elders or other "prominent" jws owned. I found that most of those criticizing had "too much" stuff themselves. I can remember when having cable TV was a point of attack. I knew that the CO had cable in his congregation supplied apartment and every elder in the congregation I attended. I knew the make and age of their vehicles. I remember in one case the PO owned an RV, large boat, a sports car, and a plane. Then there was the elder that took 4 month long vacations every year, to Europe, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.
