I heard a while back of a study that was done some years ago. Evidently, they took children preschool or kindergarten, don't remember which, and told them that they could have either 1 piece of chocolate now, or if they waited till the end of the day they could have two. They kept track of which kids took the immediate chocolate and which ones held out for two.

After the kids were grown, they compared the two groups. The ones who held out for two pieces showed less occurrences of mental illness, indebtedness, unhappiness, and overall they were more successful. What do you make of this? Which group are you in?

    Mr. Doe,

Given my new status as an independent thinker and renegade JW, I am diving headfirst into the outrageous and shocking practice of eating dessert first. My favorite is devil's food (O, the irony!).

I am newly apprised of this study to which you refer, yet I should like to think that I have come off the winner, though the statistics are clearly stacked against me. I shall require additional time in order to analyze and interpret the masses of numerical data that you have presented for my perusal.

I consider it a signal honor to be part of your study.

    This is your study? Yes?

As a child, I probably would have held out for two pieces of chocolate. Now, I could hold out for two pieces of chocolate, but the vagaries of life being what they are, I know that I could be hit by a bus and killed before the end of the day is up. Better one chocolate while still living, then two while dead! So maybe those "bird in the hand" kiddies were not totally without wisdom?
