I was just thinking about this today. C of C opened my eyes on how the GB makes decisions. I used to think that they must have prayed a lot together and then had moments of enlightenment from God. I never thought that they just sat around and debated things. I certainly didn't think politics would be involved with certain members always siding with others.
How did you think the GB made decisions? Did you think about it?

They look at the problems, and find the harshest measures to patch them up while presenting a mainstreaming image to the world. Whatever will ruin the most lives, create more problems where none should have been, and generate the most positive publicity without being honest is going to be the "solution". Of course, these "answers" never work.

I have wondered about the same thing myself: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/143624/1.ashx
Didn't get too many replies, but you can find a few views there.

I totally felt that they met together and discussed the problems at hand, and then opened the Bible and would read passages that pertained to the situation.
They then prayed earnestly together and then maybe, I don't know....they each got the same idea...the same solution at the same time..???
Sounds nuts, now that I think about it... but I did think they were inspired somehow....
I was so naive...back then...

I don't know why people are surpirsed by them debating things but I've heard similar comment from witnesses. I remember this one fella saying, that "they probably even know the exact date and time of Armageddon".....
It just goes to show one more time the extent of alternative reality many witnesses still live in. So much so that even some when they leave still find it hard to believe in reality and rather replace it with another fantasy as some comments on this board so vividly demonstrate.

I honestly believed in the global "faithful and discreet slave" class. I really thought that there was some sort of consensus of opinion here.
Once I realized that there was no input from the partakers, that illusion was quickly shattered.

When I was a child I thought they sat in large office filled wall to wall with bookshelves of old WT pubs and manuscripts of greek & hebrew. The GB prayed for holy spirit and the HS would lead them to the proper understanding. Kinda like what I thought the BOE did without the manuscripts in the KH library.........but again we are talking about4 or 5 years old.
When I was 6 the Elders had a series of talks in our class about 'serving Jehovah' at the various levels. It was then that I learned about appointment based in FS stats and family ties.

Ray Franz said some older ones were sleeping and awoke just to vote???? How stupid is that? They may as well have thrown a dart at "yes" or "no." And many would just pick what "the Oricle" Fred Franz would pick since he had a direct line to Jehovah.

I thought they discussed the matter then prayed and became agreed right after the prayer, like a one mind thing.
