My fav books when I was a young dub were those with action in it, especially Samuel and Kings. They read like a boys' novel. In a sense they are. Those books kept me alive through many boring meetings.
Now my favorites are:
Genesis . great old mythology and some fascinating stories
Ruth - a good answer to the racist writings like Nehemiah
Book of Job - asks some very good questions, and well-written dialogue (if nobody edited in that moron Elihu, it would have been even better)
Ecclesiastes - written by the skeptic of the day. along with Job, a good answer to whoever wrote the "bad things happen to bad people" fantasies in e.g. proverbs
Song of Songs - questionable editing, but good erotic poems. most of it is probably a wedding song.
Jonah - a nice short story (almost a fable) with a moral lesson, unlike what we find in e.g. the racist psalms
- Jan

I'm noticing a trend here.
With the exception of Revelation and Siegswife's mention of the gospel, nobody has mentioned anything from the new testament.
Is it just me, or is the second half of the bible so farfetched as to be boring?
DB likes James and I mentioned Hebrews. I do think some of the OT writings (i.e. Proverbs) can be an easier read than the NT (gospels excluded).
I am with Jan on this one. Judges, Kings, Samuel, Chronicles were good reading, and like Jan - it made the time fly at the meetings.
Now, I would say, Psalms, Proverbs and book of Acts.
Have never read the Apocryphal books - maybe I am missing out? Anyone care to enlighten me?
Happy t-day all!
