Hi all. One part of my experience with the jw's was that many of the elders in my congreagtion were die hard into Star trek...I figured it was isolated to that one kh, but as I went to different ones, I noticed it was a lot of them. One elder explained his fandom as: "It makes me think of the new system. We will travel to other planets when the earth is full, and colonize the galaxy. And Star treks message was one of peace. It is very inline with true christian thought." Has anyone had similar experiences???
JWs and Star Trek...

Yes, we would colonize other planets, and travel around and find exciting cultures like... Oh, wait - we'd all be exactly the same, on every planet! I mean, when you look at the WBTS illustrations, there are all kinds of cultures in them, but in reality, if the 'new world order' was put in place, it wouldn't take many years before everyone would think alike, wear the same clothes and obviously have the same customs (only WBTS approved ones).
I find it puzzling that a religious person finds a religious tone in Star Trek; if anything I see the opposite. But, I guess "to a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail" (yes, I am aware it goes both ways).

No, but I'm not a science fiction fan, so I may not have noticed. If this really is the case with jws in general, don't you think it's weird that they and the Mormons are fixated on going to other planets?

It fits so well with the "NEXT GENERATION" stuff.
There's the BORG trying to totally assimilate us, and we feel that resistance
is futile. We are drones that feel that we must cooperate with the collective
and have no real life without it.Meanwhile, we are hoping to be rescued against all odds by these humans
that claim that mankind with it's technology (internet and modern understanding)
and it's emotions (true concern for fellow beings) will win the day. JW's may have
had a higher incidence of trekkies because we hoped to make a difference.VOYAGER would help us also. Besides being a total babe, 7 of 9 saw both sides
and, at first, resented being torn from the collective. Even when she knew she was
better off, she didn't feel that she fit in. Her Borg days, while not something she
was proud of, gave her insights that others didn't have.DEEP SPACE NINE and ENTERPRISE- I got nothing to compare. But T'Pol was
the hottest of the hot space chicks. More so than 7 of 9, even. The old series- hell, what redblooded male didn't want to spread his seed all over
the galaxy with some of those women- even the green ones? Plus, we could all
imitate Bones in our ministry. "I'm just a publisher. I am not a prophet."

A lot of JWs are into Star Trek. I remember when The Next Generation had a big two-part episode in which it was revealed that all the humanoid races of the galaxy were spawned by a single ancient race who put DNA on a bunch of different planets.
I wondered at the time if Star Trek was going to now be considered "bad," since that episode basically gave the finger to Bible-God.

ha, ha OTWO, you are soooo perceptive. Jws love Star Trek because of the skimpy outfits! I never would've thought of that. So tell, me, do they like James Bond movies as well?

When I was younger, I used to be a fan of the Next Generation series and a little bit of Deep Space Nine. Now days, I can't help but find most of these shows really silly. Sure, Jolene Blalock and Jerry Ryan are hot, but not enough to make me sit through an episode of those series. Now whenever I look at those old episodes, I tend to cringe.
I guess Witnesses liked the shows, since everyone had that clean-cut Wesley Crusher look.

Most of them, I cannot post.
Do a google search under images for Jolene Blalock (T'Pol).
She's a serious model and poses without much (if any) clothing
on. Looks completely different when she smiles. Still, Vulcan
makeup can't hide things. -

Oh no a witness ship. Quick activate the cloaking device, maybe they wont see us and try to beam over watchtowers like they did last time.
I was a big Star Trek fan, I remember the same line of thinking about colonizing other worlds. As I recall most of this was based off of speculation of the what the "other scrolls" would be that were to be opened after armageddon.
I lost intrest in the shows after the first season or two of Voyager, but I still like TNG. I thought the half klingon girl was more attractive than 7 of 9. B'elanna, or something I think was her name. :p Never seen a single episode of Enterprise though.
