"The Organization is Dying"

Suppose the organization scores a couple years of net, objective
decline of publishers, using their own statistics.

Can you imagine what the effect would be? Somebody asked if any issue
could really knock down the Watchtower - child abuse, the UN thing,
    blood, etc.

I think, if it happens in a couple years, this would be the killer
issue - Suppose, no matter what a JW brought up in defense, you
could say "Well, the organization is dying". It would be simple
and not require any special research or knowledge. You wouldn't
have to visit any apostate sites on the internet or argue.
It would then feed on itself, as the invincibility of the
    organization is finally stripped away.

    Inspired!!!
When they come to the door I can never think of anything to say,
from now on, "The organization is dying". Imagine the spiritual despair this implant will produce in their tiny heads.
You would have to say it in a completely flat, unemotional tone for maximum effect.

We've already had a period like that in the late 70s. A couple of years of declines, negative growth in 70 or 80 countries, asterisks darkening the pages of the yearbook numbers. Did JWs give up then? No, they merely said:

    a) This is a test
    b) It's those '75ers who are leaving, good riddance
    c) The end is near because the work is slowing down

Then the 80s came along, growth returned, everything was back to normal. Same thing will happen in a few years. The Net will have its effect, then a group of folks immune to the Net effect will be attracted to the new and improved WTS, and growth will return.

Then, in about ten or twenty years, the growth will slow, and people will wonder if this is the end of the organization. And then a few years later the growth will return and...

    Metatron,

I must be missing something. How would "The orgaization is dying" refute anything they believe. In my opinion this is on par with grade 2 and saying "I know you are but what am I". Given this may cause a few to quite I think it would make some even more determined to stay and get out there and publish more.

Interesting points, Metatron. And they may yet die of natural causes (their continual dishonesty, and lack of love), but I will be happy if we just keep them honest. It would actually be great if they mainstream, evolve and become useful members of society. Now, THAT would be a dream come true, IMO. First, however, I want apologies (in writing) for the ruined, lost, wasted lives, and the dishonesty and blatant double standards. Then we can all grow and heal.
However, if things work out as you propose, that would be no skin off my back (it would be much like watching the tobacco industry go down because of its own bad karma). Also, something like that, while it would be justified and explained away to no end by JW's, would eliminate their usual extreme paranoid "we're the most persecuted people on earth!" syndrome, if a sudden demise were to come. Time and history will tell.

    Seeker,

An interesting take on recent JW history, except fpor pomne crucial element that distinguishes the present time from the ones you refer to.

If you're inclined to think that such patterns are cyclical and can recur indefinitely, consider one crucial element: unlike even the recent past, the JW chronology on which they base their claims is all but bereft of plausibility.

How much longer can they stick to their claims related to 1914 without appearing silly? Can they survive the imminent Centenary of the Birth of the Kingdom in 2014, now a little more than 12 short years away, with their creidbility intact?

What can these buggers pull out of their hats to avoid becoming a total laughingstock? At some point soon it would seem inevitable that they'll have to deal with this.

Of course. All they have to do is change their teachings, and soon all JWs will shake their heads at apostates who "claim we used to think 1914 was significant."

Ask a JW today about 1925 and see the blank stare you get.

When people want to believe in something, they will believe in it, all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. P.T. Barnum had a saying about this phenomenon...

    Yeah, Seeker.....

But 1914 is ``The Big Kahuna'' for sure.

Don't forget about 1914. While they have been downplaying it recently, it is still their core doctrine, and Ray Franz and others have long foretold that this key doctrine will have to be explained away.

They created their own time bomb. tick tick tick
