I was an elder that was deleted because I disagreed with the blood issue. Said somthing about it and that was it met with all the elders and the CO they asked me a bunch of questions for several hours and then told me I was no longer an elder. That's all I needed to realize what an oppressive group I was in. Ordered C of C and showed my wife the book and within a month we were rapidly fading. It was easy, they got rid of me so now they don't bother me. It's great having our freedom.

LD was an elder in my congregation. :) I found out through a sister in our congregation that he had read the Tort of Misrepresentation. Shortly thereafter, I noticed changes in him, and I suspected that he and his wife were fading. My husband and I were in the process of fading also.

Now, we go out to dinner, etc. It is amazingly refreshing to associate with them!

I wanted to welcome you and your wife to JWD, ldrnomo! I heard about your lovely dinner with my best friend and her husband. I'm so glad you "made it out" and the BOE is not bothering you! I look forward to your posts and getting to know you guys in the times to come.

I hate to burst your bubble, but he's probably just "weak". Perhaps he has health issues (depression?) that he does not spaek of. In my experience, there are a lot of "weak" witnesses who can't live up to the WT's stringent requirements but wholeheartedly believe it's the truth. They bea themselves up daily over not "measuring up". Sad bunch.

It could be a number of scenarios.

My dad was PO in the mid-70's. Somewhere around 1980/1981 he stepped down due to family issues. Within a few years he was completely inactive. A few years after that he had brain surgery. Multiple other life circumstances hit him. He really hasn't done much at all in the org for over 25 years. There were a few years that he attended. Then he was disfellowshipped.

He's been essentially out of the org for over 25 years but still believes. I've had a few discussions with him and bought ISOCF for him. He found the book very interesting and also comforting in that my dad had always thought along similar lines to Franz but just seemed out of step with other elders and org men.

Anyway, he is sympathetic to my leaving, but still believes that JWs are the closest to the true religion and feels that he made his decision to join based on his own good solid research.

He does not post on JWD and is not really interested in reading here.

He just prefers to be left alone.

Still, your old friend may very well be a lurker (or poster~!) here. But just because an elder fades, doesn't mean he doesn't still believe.

    -Aude.
