so lied to wife to go to apostafest meetup....hopped on bike..and btw...i stole her ipod...the little white 4gig one....loaded it up off an employees song list at work...not the best..but ok..tons of johnny cash....made it almost to Charlotte on the interstate...rode 95 mph the whole way...do that a lot...not sure why...but was going for a new record to Charlotte....and then...the hard rain began....shit. I am pretty good in storm on a bike fortunately...slowed and followed a UPS semi in the right lane...with our drought apparently everyone has forgotten to slow when it rains!!...27 cars in 2 miles...several were pile ups...but funny...I was sooooo nearly killed or wonderfully maimed. ...just kidding!
We came to a stop...me sitting behind that semi for about 30 seconds...so I took a peek onto the right paved shoulder lane to see how far the back-up is and I was thinking about riding down that shoulder lane...all of a sudden a car comes by sideways two feet from my bike!..front wheels still on pavement while rear wheels were in grass and mud making a real mess...the driver and passenger were looking right at me as the car slid by....it was like a Sam Peckinpah slo-mo movie scene!!.....They had not slowed and swerved off to the right to avoid another hideous pile-up wreck occurring right behind me!...I looked back and a mini-van was on it side being pushed forward by other stupid non-slowing slamming vehicles!....the UPS truck driver jumped out to see if I was ok...even though i did not fall over...but he was in front of me...and must have been looking back at the whole thing in real time and he was freakin out.
So I say...fluck this...I am on a motorcycle and rode the right paved emergency shoulder all the way to the front and worst wreck....then the sun came out and dried me off as I booked on to burgertimes house.....INCREDIBLE old neighborhood...like by colleges usually....very trendy....huge trees..my kind of place....and the only place I would ever live in Charlotte...just beautiful....
So only burger and a nice lady...we will call her betty...... show up...but very interesting...she is not a JW but married to a former dub...his ex and sons and grand-kids all dubs and she has never even heard of jwd....but showed up because burger posted the meet on meetup.com...lots and lots of questions from her....burger not only has great tastes in neighborhoods...but has a great job...is very well rounded and was smart enough to get kicked out the Baptism questions program!!!! hhahaha........so he never got baptized!!!....the lucky ba$tard......then a college kid from a nearby city shows up...it was CunningMan......kinda funny that betty went to his same school btw.......Cunning is an one helluva brainiac.....but unfortunately an active dub that knows the real deal but is trapped....using his parents basically for school....The things this whacked out faith force us to do...geeze. Now the REALLY funny part...he goes to my parents congo!!..hahah...he about fainted when he heard his PO is my DAD!!!...funny too that at my first apostafest unique1 and balsam where in my grandads hall and loved him to death!..haha...too funny....I told Cunning I was a teenager when I helped build the hall he goes to. Small world for sure.... anyway we three really helped the newbie lady a bunch...and damm I like meeting real people I have so much in common with....Thanks Bugertime!!.....and I really liked DISH So I left in an unbelievable.....sic dangerous monsoon...flooded out road type storm.....finally had to exit for a bit..had on rain gear..but the water was too deep..the rain too hard....wicked awful storms...had a very cold run home once it slacked up since I was soaked to the bone...wet boat shoes with no socks...not smart riding gear I know.....and I got back very late for me on a Saturday, nearly 10:00 and wife was not real happy...but I was....oompa....I just love apostadventure PLEASE SLOW DOWN when it rains...101

Oomp,
It sounds like the trip both ways was an adventure. You and Lenny get the worst weather while riding!
I am glad you had a good time at your first a-fest. Just remember not to shoot your mouth off to the wrong people about the others you knew there.

Oompa, your diligence in not forsaking the gathering of yourselves together will certainly prove efficacious.

Wow... apostaventure is right!
So glad you were not affected by the weather and traffic insanity and near-misses... and it sounds like the meet-up, though small, was a blast!
Wonder when the Baba will break down and attend one...? -

It really is nice to have face-to-face meetings with others that have
survived the tragedy. Great story. Watch out for those other drivers. -
