In the Farkel Writes a Book thread, he mentioned Gedanken, who was one of the more interesting posters on the old H2O. It reminded me of him and some other posters I enjoyed but miss now. What's the story with Gedanken?

AlanF at least comes on here every once in a while. Maximus was a great poster. He and I once had like a two-hour telephone conversation. Fascinating. Also, there was the other Seeker who posted, and people got us frequently confused!

Any others that you miss? Oh, and it's nice to have Farkel back! Hey, write that book!

If i recall, gedanken used to write fake uber jw posts. He would recount slightly exaggerated fictional stories of how he and his wife went to various jw functions, and how enjoyable and upbuilding they were. Needless to say, they drew attacks, and he eventually had to stop.

I remember him as being a super brain. Lots of science posts. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyone else remember him?

Maximus was a former CO/DO, I think, with a lot of WTS connections. He is honored by our current uber poster, Minimus.

    I enjoyed Gedankens posts.

Also Maximus helped me out a lot in my case. I'll never forget him.

Yes, he was very intelligent. I think the problem was that he used two accounts, one as gedanken, and another for his satire.

:I remember him as being a super brain. Lots of science posts. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyone else remember him?

Gedanken is a professor in quantum mechanics. His doctorate is in chemistry. One of the times I went to visit him he let me read a university grant request he had written. After asking him the meaning of at least a dozen words in his document, I gave up. And that was just in the TITLE!

That being said, Gedanken is a great guy. He's not the least puffed up with himself and quite modest, actually. He has a charming British accent and once cooked me a British Christmas dinner consisting of a Goose and a dish known as "Toad In The Hole" which is otherwise referred to as "wet concrete but without the flavor." We both got sotted on wine and then called up AlanF to wish him and his family a merry Christmas. Norm Hovland was staying with Alan & Julie, so we had a chance to speak to him before he went back to freeze off his ass in Norway.

It is true that Gedanken spoofed a JW in a few of his posts, but it was easy to tell he was not being serious.

I never had a conversation with Maximus that was LESS than two hours! He was a true renaissance man: knew his Latin, classical music, art, literature, architecture and history. He once even put Freddie Franz in his place by excising some really wacko crap Fred had written for the 1958 "Your Will Be Done Book."

    satanus,

:Ok, i found his name. It was know_you.

Know_you was a takeoff of an H20 JW wacko apologist "You Know." You Know had predicted a date for Armageddon in each year for four years in a row and we had a riot messing with him.

In typical British fashion, Gedanken's humor was subtle, but wickedly funny.

That was great - and I also remember You Know!

Does anyone remember when someone posted as though they were a GB member years ago on H2O? It fooled a few folks. Not sure how that all ended, or who did it.

The last I talked with Maximus, he had a son who was doing some screenwriting in Hollywood on a high level. Does anyone know how that went?

AlanF and I have talked many times. His posts were a great help to me.

The Your Will Be Done book - yes I remember it. I'm trying to think of the book we studied as my parents were becoming Witnesses. It was in the early 1960s, and the book was from the late 50s.
